Deputy Principal's Message

It has been an extremely busy term and with only 3 weeks to go until the end of the year, the fast pace is guaranteed to continue. Keep an eye out on School Stream for current notices and information regarding the many end of year activities we have planned in the coming weeks.

Step-up day

On Monday 5 December, students will participate in a 'step-up' day. The aim of the day is to support students who are moving into a new stage in 2023 to transition to their new classes. It will also be a good opportunity for those who are moving into the later part of their stage to meet the students who will be joining them in their new stage.

Students in Kindergarten will spend the day in the Stage 1 classes with the Stage 1 teachers and Year 1 students. Year 2 students will move to the Stage 2 rooms and work with the Year 3 students and Stage 2 teachers. Year 4 students will spend the day upstairs in the Stage 3 area with the teachers and Year 5 students. Year 6 students will participate in a range of activities throughout the day, facilitated by the current Kindergarten teachers.

Students will be engaged in team building and collaborative activities as well as participate in a range of experiences to help the students become familiar with their 2023 stage group and surroundings. Student groupings for the step-up day are not indicative of specific 2023 class placements, but will enable students to have the opportunity to experience their new stage. It can be an exciting yet daunting experience when moving to a new stage, particularly when it involves moving to a new area of the school. Our step-up day aims to alleviate any concerns students may have and help to set-up the students for a successful first day in 2023 with their new teacher and classmates.

Student Voice - Student Representative Council (SRC)

The SRC met last week to reflect on their recent initiatives and plans for school improvement as well as to bring their new class ideas to the group for discussion. The meeting was facilitated by the Year 6 student leaders and generated fantastic, collaborative discussion across the Stage 1, 2 and 3 classes. The SRC will meet in a fortnight for the last time in 2022 and provide a SRC Report for Semester 2 in our next, and final, newsletter.

Bike Safety

Recently, there has been a number of students riding their bikes and scooters to school without a helmet. Students are reminded they are required by law to wear an approved bicycle helmet securely fitted and fastened on their head.

Further information, including choosing and fitting the right helmet, can be found here and on the Safety Town website.
