Inside the Classroom

Primary

Primary classes have continued to welcome students who are transitioning to start next year. These students are enjoying their time at Anson Street School and we look forward to welcoming them and their families next year. Thankyou to the classes who have been welcoming these students into their classrooms.

Class 10 has continued to enjoy weekly outings. They have visited Cook Park the Mud Hut and North Orange McDonalds.

Each primary class has been working hard in the classroom throughout the year. The students have all been making great progress towards their learning goals. Teachers have been working on student reports which will go home this week. Staff are proud of all the achievements that the students have made.

Stage 4

Class 14 has still been working hard despite it being the last week of the year; enjoying completing Mathletics challenges and finishing off their Stop Motion videos. They have, however, had some fun time with Miss Georgie teaching them an exciting new card game "Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza!"

As we wind up for the year, Class 15 are enjoying spending time with each other; playing games, chatting and polishing off projects. From class 15, have a safe and happy holidays.

Stage 4 Christmas Lunch at Adventure Playground

Stage 4 shared a special hamburger lunch at the Adventure Playground. The Smoko Shed made a beautiful lunch that was enjoyed by everyone. Students and staff played a game of hide and seek. We were able to take advantage of the beautiful sunshine and share experiences for the last outing for the year as a stage group. Students were careful of the community around them and displayed beautiful manners being great models of Anson Street School PBL expectations. Well Done Stage 4!

Stage 5

For science, class 6 students have been learning how technology has improved human health. They designed helmets to protect their eggs from cracking when dropped.

Design and Technology students have been busy finishing off all their projects. This term they have made barbeque caddies, leather key rings and a pallet Christmas tree.

Christmas celebrations are in full swing this week. Stage 5 enjoyed a combined stage party at the Trade Training Centre with pizza and Christmas games, followed by a Christmas lights bus tour.

Congratulations to our year 10 students- Sam, Daniel, Stella, Phebea, Callum, Toby, Lina, Jory, Alex, Dylan, Dayle, Jai, Jackson, Zane, Alyssa, Blake and Dave, who have achieved their Record of School Achievement. We wish them all the best as they move on to stage 6 to continue their schooling at Anson Street School.

We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Sam this year. We wish him all the best for his big move away from Orange.

Stage 6

Year 12 had their final Service visit last week, visiting Wangarang and participating in some day program activities, workshop and were fortunate to be give a walk through of the facilities.

Stage 6 enjoyed a wonderful end of year celebration with all year 11 and 12 students sitting down for a lovely Christmas lunch. Year 12 celebrated their last day of school before departing for the last time with a whole school farewell and guard of honour. Students practiced gratitude on the day, thanking staff and peers for their friendships and guidance over their school years.

Stage 6 attended the Orange City Council celebrations for International Day of People with a Disability at the South Court on Byng Street. See Anson in Review for photos of the event.

Stage 6 have been working with Mr McRae each Wednesday and Thursday morning as part of our skills house program. Students have practiced woodwork skills in measuring, cutting, sanding, and hammering nails to build a caddy to take home.

Campus - sponsored by the letter C

The last few weeks have been about cranes, crocodiles, community visits, collaborating, Callum and Christmas!

We were excited to watch the new Multi-Purpose Centre demountable building housing the new OoSH and Suspension Centre arrive last week - brought in by a huge crane. We can't wait to use the space in the new year.

Class 21 have completed an in-depth study of crocodiles finishing with scale drawings in the playground. We were amazed at how big these creatures get compared to humans.

The whole Campus joined the Campus2Community program a few weeks ago to visit the Community Garden located in March St. We saw a few ideas that may develop next year on the Campus. Stay tuned! The students also visited the Food Bank next door and learned about this community service. We also discussed ways we could help out and give back to this program next year. Lots of planning to do!

Students have collaborated on lots of projects together including jigsaw puzzles, artwork, and reading to other classes! We are so encouraged by the teamwork and social skills that students are developing in their own classrooms and when they are joined by others.

In very exciting news, collaborating also saw the Campus2Community boys finally catch a fish! It was only small - but apparently, it still counts!!!

We are very proud of Callum, who leaves us at the end of the year, to start employment. Callum was successful in gaining a traineeship in Disability Support which he starts early in 2023. We wish him all the very best of luck with his future endeavours.

We have finished off the year with a Christmas lunch - eating together on our beautiful front lawn and celebrating a successful year together.

We look forward to a well-earned break and wish everyone a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year
