Year 6 Orientation Day

The Stage 3 Transition and Enrichment Program (STEP) saw approximately 90 Year 6 students from across the area attend their orientation day to prepare themselves for Year 7 in 2023. They participated in four sessions:

  • Wonderful Water (science experiments)
  • Robot Rampage (STEM robotics)
  • Write 4 Fun (literacy games and challenges, and a sample of writing)
  • OCC Discovery Tour (Amazing Race scavenger hunt and how to read a timetable)

A lot of fun and learning was had by all participants, and we are looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort in 2023!

Drama Performance

This week our Year 10 drama class performed a piece for the school community titled Rosencrantz and Guilenstern are dead! Written by Tom Stoppard and co-directed by Elizabeth Plane and Samuel Harris. Well done to our students and teachers who have put in a lot of effort to make their performance perfect and entertaining for all. We look forward to seeing what they have in store for us next year!

Mini Muddies

Last Friday Year 9 Sport Science traveled to Farrer Memorial High School to compete in the Mini Muddies challenge.

The Mini Muddies Obstacle Challenge is all about getting students outdoors for a whole lot of fun, teamwork, exercise, and fitness. The Mini Muddies challenge provides 30+ obstacles and mud pits over 8kms through spectacular terrain. Team spirit, collaboration, tactics and strategy, not to mention a healthy dose of friendly competition made for an exciting inter-house battle.

Pictured below are some mud-drenched Year 9's that enjoyed their time on the course. Many thanks to Mrs Magann and Mrs Clydsdale for taking the students for an enjoyable day off campus.

National Agriculture Day

Last week UNE hosted a National Agriculture day enrichment program with students looking at soils, microbes, plant growth, meat science, genetics and artificial insemination over the day. Thank you to Mrs Price for accompanying our Ag students for the day.

Youth Group

Students have been enjoying attending Youth Group on  Friday afternoons. Youth group is an opportunity for students to come together with food, friends and to pray and learn about the word of God. Everyone is welcome 3:30-5pm.

Friday 25/11/22 was our last one of the year where students were able to enjoy lots of Christmas festivities including Pin the heart on the grinch, Christmas song and movie trivia using emojis, candy cane hunt and biscuit reindeer decorating.

We have had a points system running throughout the 4 terms where students were given a memory verse to take home and remember and if they were able to recite them the following week they would receive a point. Students could also gain a number of points from simply showing up and participating/ winning games within the Youth group. Our winner for Term 1 was Neve Patterson, 2nd term was Jess MacMahon and for the final 2 terms Neve Patterson was our winner once again.

Z Club (Zonta)

Last week some of our staff and students attended the Zonta meeting at Boobooks. Dr Mary Kaspar, author of ‘Popular Girls’ was the guest speaker. The recipients of the Sabine Altman Award were announced and spoke via zoom. Z Club President Imogen Hislop, College Captain Lily Moore and Vice Captain Paige Latham as well as past member Emma Gray attended, along with Miss Armfield.--
