Visual Art 

The Term 4 Visual Arts Unit of Inquiry is called ‘Creatures of the Sea’, which integrates with the Transdisciplinary theme - ‘Sharing the Planet’. The Unit focuses on the various sea creatures in the ocean and their habitats. 

Activities include: 

  • Hand puppet inspired by Dreamer Puppet Incursion, incorporating different aspects of a fish. 
  • Seaweed mobile, incorporating fine motor skills through threading and knotting.  
  • Tiddler Christmas Crown. A multimedia piece using fine line grey lead drawings, with a focus on pattern and shading (lights/darks), then embellished with paint and collaged with papers and other materials. 

MUSIC 

Sharing the Planet 

  

The transdisciplinary theme this term is ‘Sharing the Planet’ with a focus on sea creatures and their habitats. Students will be singing songs about the sea, learning to write down rhythms, completing a learning task, practicing for a performance at the end of the year and demonstrating their confidence and increased music knowledge, as they create, move and play during their class lessons. 

  

Students will:  

  • Learn to write rhythms using informal notation. 
  • Listen, respond to and reflect on a variety of music inspired by oceans and nature e.g “Aquarium” (Carnival of the Animals).  
  • Sing a variety of songs linked to the Unit of Inquiry e.g. Who Looks After Our World?  
  • Use songs as a starting point to discuss and be a thinker about causes of pollution in the ocean and their own responsibilities
  • Make use of movement as a language of expression...being a Risk Taker as they respond to a musical piece called 'Sea Creatures'.  
  • Show they are respectful, caring and appreciative as they listen to other groups perform.  
  • Practise their chime bar playing 
  • Practise reading percussion scores and performing responsibly for each other  
  • Learn to sing a song as a whole year level performance at the Music Celebration concert  
  • Become knowledgeable about multicultural music as they reflect on the fact that they share the planet with many diverse cultures.

Students will be able to:    

  • Say and spell “OCEAN” in Japanese. 
  • Say and spell “FISH” in Japanese. 
  • Say and spell “RED FISH” and “BLUE FISH” in Japanese. 
  • Listen to a Japanese SEA song and a FISH song and sing along with sensei.  
  • Learn and explain what Japanese people do to help our ocean.  
  • Make an ORIGAMI fish and label it in Japanese characters. 
  • Enjoy Christmas craft activities that Japanese children do.  

 

Physcial Education 

  

The term 4 unit we are focusing on is- Sharing the Planet 

  

Focus: Fundamental Motor Skills, Minor Games and how we relate to the environment around us. 

  

Fundamental Motor Skills revision; incorporating running, jumping, leaping, throwing, catching, bouncing and kicking using different types of surfaces and areas of the school. 

 

Minor Games: The children will play minor games and use a variety of equipment and a varied playing area to reinforce their understanding of boundaries, rules and cooperative play. 

 

Learning task assessment on progression in FMS throughout the year.  

 

Concepts: Reflective, Responsibility- Reflect on what FMS we have learnt and what environments work the best for particular skills.

Library  

  

All students are encouraged to borrow books from the Library. The focus is on reading for enjoyment, interest and information. The children also have the opportunity to practise their borrowing skills and further their love of reading. 

The Library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information.
