Middle Years

Middle Years Update

Let's CELEBRATE!!!

There is nothing to equal a good celebration.

Moomba celebrates all we love about Melbourne. 'Let's get together and have fun' is its motto and most of us have at some point of our life have done just that at Moomba. We do so with a sense of pride at being part of the community of our great city, and celebrate our good fortune to call Melbourne home.

Last Friday we had our own unique, special celebration, Koonung Day. This is a very important day on our College calendar. Just as a family birthday celebration is a key way to bring family together and realise the importance of each individual in that group, so too is Koonung Day. Congratulations to all our students who participated in such an enthusiastic manner. It was loads of fun for all of us.

Planning such an action filled day involves staff, student leaders, parents and benefactors pooling their collective resources and skills to produce a really impressive range of options in the activities offered to students. We are grateful for this wonderful opportunity to celebrate belonging to the Koonung community. What a great day it was and we are very proud of the way so many people worked together to ensure that the day was an outstanding success. Our thanks goes out to every individual who contributed in any way.

We are proud of our college  and the college spirit that continues to grow and gives us every reason to celebrate our wonderful school. Just as we are fortunate to call Melbourne our home city, we are fortunate indeed to call Koonung our school.

Congratulations Matt Tait

Matt plays rugby union for Box Hill under 16s. He had a great season, the team finished 2nd in the table and played in the grand final against Melbourne Unicorns last Saturday. They went on to win the grand final beating the Melbourne unicorns by 36 - 14. Well done Matt!

Middle School Interact Club Literacy event

On Wednesday 11 September myself and fellow Year 7, 8 and 9 Middle School Interact Club members went off to Box Hill North Primary School. The main focus of the day was to help promote the importance of literacy throughout the school. We read our favourite picture books to the Year 1 and 2 students  and then they read their favourite books back to us. Another focus for the day was to also support Box Hill North Primary School's  Book Week and explain the Books in Homes Campaign that we are participating in. We have been supporting this program by reading books to schools like Box Hill North Primary School and raising money for this campaign by running events like pizza lunches at school.

At the end of the day the students of Box Hill North PS were very thankful for our visit and we equally enjoyed  reading to them too.

Summer  Uniform starts in Term 4

With Term 4 just around the corner it is important to remind all Middle School students that their school uniform should always reflect a level of care in their personal presentation and that they are to be correctly dressed at all times – this includes both travelling to and from school as well during the school day. We are extremely proud of our students and our College and our expectation is that students will wear the Koonung uniform with pride at all times.

  • Summer uniform for girls includes Koonung regulation gingham dress, worn with plain white socks that reach mid calf, or
  • Summer uniform for girls is Koonung regulation grey shorts worn with plain white socks (no logos), that reach mid-calf.
  • Summer uniform for boys is Koonung regulation grey shorts and a white short sleeve Koonung shirt worn with plain white socks (no logos), that reach mid-calf.

Note – we do have a changeover period for the first week of Term 4 students are able to wear both Summer and Winter uniforms.
