In 2017 our Arts Domain Leader, Helen Briffa applied, for the very first time, to the Artist in Schools program which is run by Whitehorse City Council.  She was able to source a mural artist who going to put into practice ideas we had about creating a public artwork

We would not have been able to showcase this phenomenal artwork, if the Whitehorse City Council did not accept her application, to provide funds for the artist. Donations were also made through local communities with help from Johnson Tiles, Bunnings and KSC PFA

The mural which depicts The Koonung Creek Trail symbolises the connection that we share with our local natural surroundings. Ms Briffa’s was wanting through this project to create an environment which provides students the opportunity to come together liaise with each other, the broader community and in the process produce an amazing artwork.

Students researched and generated ideas which in collaboration with Mr David Foote created a spectacular and visually stimulating design.

In 2018 with Ms Briffa’s year 9 Urban art class, students commenced work on the first two mural panels. In 2019 Mr Foote’s 2019 year 9 Urban art class completed the last two panels.

I would like to further acknowledge Artist Deborah Amon Cotter, who was the leader and director of creating the mural artwork. Deborah worked at KSC for two terms each in 2018 and 2019 providing students with the experience, knowledge and skills required to successfully produce a mosaic mural.

A special thank you to Sandy Angliss, artist and art teacher who contributed a great deal to the creation of this artwork.

A very special thank you to Mat Douglass and Peter Martin who worked very hard to install  the mural and the surrounding garden bed

We stand here today to officially unveil the Koonung Creek Trail Mosaic Mural.

2019 VCE Arts Exhibition Invitation

The Arts Domain is delighted to extend an invitation to all students, parents and families to attend the 14th Annual Koonung Secondary College VCE Art, Studio Arts, Media and  Visual Communication Design.

Held in the Senior Centre, the exhibition is a celebration of the work the VCE students have put into creating sustained bodies of work throughout 2019.

The exhibition features resolved artworks and design pieces as well as developmental folios and photographic records of progress. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to see their son or daughter's hard work showcased in a formalised setting and an invaluable opportunity for students in the middle and junior years of secondary school to view high quality works in these creative subject areas.

We look forward to having your company between 6-8pm on Wednesday evening, 23 October 2019. Light refreshments and music entertainment will be provided.
