Official opening of the Koonung Creek Trail mosaic mural

Last week marked the official  unveiling of the Koonung Creek Trail mural. Further details about this special occasion are contained in the Arts section of this newsletter and I am sure that all who have seen this artwork will be impressed by its beauty. The mural is located near the reception area of the College and is a wonderful example of collaboration between the College's students and staff and the wider community.

Capital works program update

Over the last two weeks, College Council members, students and staff have met with the architects developing the masterplan for the College's upcoming building works. The architects have listened carefully to our College community and have designed accordingly, within the constraints of the site and the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) requirements. This initial proposed masterplan was presented to College Council on Tuesday evening and is attached below. If you have any feedback, could you please email me by close of business this Friday, as the architects have a very tight timeline to follow in order to meet VSBA deadlines. It is great to see things starting to take shape - it is certainly an exciting time for our College!

Facilities work over the term break

Once again, the College was a hive of activity during the term break. This is also when we schedule tasks that can't be completed during the term. A great deal was achieved in this period, including:

  • Beginning of asbestos removal program (boiler room, fan rooms, 1 portable eaves removal/replaced/painted)
  • Air conditioning units installed in rooms 9, 10, 11, 20 & 21
  • Tag and testing of all electrical appliances across the entire school
  • Gravel carpark resurfacing
  • Electrical safety testing in Theatre/Gym building – new safety switches installed on light circuits – faulty circuits diagnosed and fixed
  • Windows tinted in ICT centre
  • Cleanout and spruce up of interview room and waiting area
  • Exam room tables and chairs setup and pack away
  • Repair/remake of 2 Portable classroom entrance steps
  • Many, varied gardening tasks – mowing / edging / whipper snipping overgrown areas / pruning / weeding / dead tree removal, etc
  • Mosaic mural garden plant up and prep for ceremony
  • Door painting in Theatre area
  • Strong room fitout and relevant cabinet moving
  • A variety of other small maintenance tasks completed

This list is impressive given that we had some asbestos removal conducted during the break, which necessitated the closure of the site for a week. Thank you to Mat Douglas and Peter Martin for their hard work in improving our facilities.

Year 12 VCE exams

We wish our Year 12 students all the best with their final revision classes and upcoming exams.  Revision is crucial and we know that students will be revising extensively over the next few weeks.  Staff members  are looking forward  to celebrating with our Year 12 students and their families at the final breakfast, assembly and valedictory dinner.
