Year 7 Numeracy

Chance & Probability

In math this term, 7B2 has been learning about Chance & Probability.

Chance & Probability is a subtopic in math where we have to do many experiments/trials, we record out thoughts and predictions in our books before we start the trials. 7B2 had a lot of fun collaborating with people we didn’t really have much experience with.

We played a game about a famous riddle. It was about two people stranded on an island and only having one banana to spare, they can not half the banana and they agree to play a game for it; rolling two die (1 each) and if the highest number was 1, 2, 3 or 4, then Player 1 would win, and if the highest number was 5 or 6 then Player 2 would win.

We also had to decide if the game was fair or ‘biased’; a word meaning unfair or inequitable.

Try the game at home and see which player wins the most!

In our unit of chance and probability, we flipped coins to determine what side it will land on.

We also did some experiments/trials like:

  • Making a spinner
  • Drawing space samples
  • Flipping coins
  • We played “Greedy Pig”
  • We also played with a spinner online

7B2 very much enjoyed this topic and cannot wait for our next one.
