Senior School

March 2020

We are pleased to report that most students are really working hard and using study time wisely. Despite the COVID-19 crisis our year 12's have had a strong attendance and an overall fantastic attitude. Keep up the great work.

Attendance

Every Day Counts. Attendance at school is essential for ongoing learning. All students need to be at school unless unwell. Senior School staff will be monitoring absences over 5 days and letters will be sent home. Ongoing absences will require parent meetings and an attendance plan. Our attendance policy, requires students to achieve 95% attendance in VCE. This means no more than approximately 7 days absence per year.

Parent Teacher Interviews

We encourage parents to attend Parent Teacher interviews week 2 Term 2, 23rd April to support your child’s learning. (assuming they are permitted)

School Assessed Coursework – SAC’s

Just a reminder that SAC dates have been published and provided to students. All students must be present for SAC’s or produce a medical certificate to Senior School.

At this stage we are business as usual, and Assessment tasks will follow the schedule.

Redemptions are provided for students who do not meet a satisfactory level in the SAC. Students are given a Redemption Notification form, which details task, time and date. This form needs your signature. Some tasks are run during the school day, whilst others will be run after school. Please complete and return forms.

Medical or Specialist Appointments need to be made at alternate times. If students are absent, then a medical MUST be provided on return to school (within 3 days as per Attendance Policy). Thanks for your support.

Study Centre & Study Hall in the Library

The Study Centre is open till 4.30pm each night. In the library Pre-Service teachers from Maths/Science & English/Humanities will be available to support our students. This is a great opportunity for students to have personal coaching. This runs from Monday – Thursday.

Homework

Expected time working at VCE 20+ hours minimum for Year 12 students

Students are encouraged and reminded that working consistently, employing a range of strategies to study and complete homework is in their best interests.

See some suggestions below.

  1. Pick a place and time. Everyone has their own idea about the best place and time to study
  2. Study every day
  3. Plan your time
  4. Discover your learning style
  5. Review and revise
  6. Take breaks
  7. Ask for help
  8. Stay motivated

Motivational Speaker Darren Pereira

Students need to consider the power of the mind:

B     Belief – See it, Believe It, Achieve It

E     Excellence – work smarter, not harder

S      Single minded – challenge yourself

T     Toughness – never give up

Demonstrate respect for your teachers, a positive mindset, ‘I can’ do mentality and goal setting along with never give up.

Student comments:

“don’t be distracted”            “use time wisely”

“for all actions there are effects”

All students will be challenged to take the ‘Selfie Challenge’.

We will concentrate on study skills and ‘What Does Success look like’ next term.
