Principal's Report

March 2020

It is safe to say that this has been a term like no other, starting with the bushfires of late   December. While we plan for and respond to the impact that coronavirus (COVID-19) will   have on our lives, it is also important that we do not forget our essential workers who are continuing to work with our neediest and most vulnerable on the path to recovery from   the challenges that we face.

These are unprecedented times for us all, both collectively and individually. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is without precedent in living memory, and it is taking us into the most challenging of times – as individuals, in our communities and as a society.

Our Government and Leaders in the last week made a decision in bringing forward school holidays to commence on Tuesday 24th of March. The decision on whether to re-open schools after the Term 1 holidays will be determined following advice from the Chief Health Officer.  At this stage, students will be required back at school for Term 2 on Wednesday 15 April 2020. Until then our students will be on school holidays.

Be reassured that if the government’s advice is for school closure at the beginning of Term 2, I will notify you directly then.

This is obviously an unprecedented step in response to unprecedented circumstances. I greatly appreciate your support as we navigate our way through these challenging times.

Parent, Teacher, Student Interviews

Parent Teacher Student Interviews at this stage are still planned to be conducted in the second week of next term, on Thursday 23rd April 2020.  I encourage all parents to make a time to meet with your child's teachers then.  Bookings would be able to be made through Compass once we can confirm that school will return in Term 2.

Please contact the school if you have any difficulties then.

Thank you to our retiring School Council President, Joyce Axiaq.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank and acknowledge our retired School Council President, Joyce Axiaq.

I must admit that Joyce is retiring reluctantly, as her son Nathan was successful in getting an apprenticeship earlier this year and hence having to leave school. The flow on of course is that Joyce is no longer eligible to be on Council.

Joyce will retire after being on School Council for the last 3 years, with the last year being as President. Her contribution to this College moving forward has been appreciated very much. The school today is very different compared to what it was 3 years ago. It is now more progressive and focused, doing its upmost to improve the outcomes of each and every student. Joyce had a role in this improvement.

We are grateful for everything that Joyce has done for the College and we wish her well in the future.

Thank you to all the staff of Kurunjang SC.

I want to take a moment to thank and acknowledge the incredible work that our teachers, school leaders and support staff, have contributed in the last term in supporting the College and its students and families.

Their efforts in these challenging times have been outstanding and are greatly appreciated by all.

Finally, to all our school community I hope you enjoy a well-earned rest over the break.

Please stay home and stay safe.

Thank you again,

John Mitsinikos

College Principal
