Religious Education

WELCOME

Yesterday the whole school celebrated Ash Wednesday, where we began our 2018 Lenten journey.  This Lent our challenge is to enact our theme this year of;  Take Action. Make a difference.  Last Sunday’s Gospel of St Mark, where Jesus was asked to heal a leper, which he does, but asks for it to be kept quiet. The leper can't contain himself and tells anyone who will listen of his healing. By responding to the leper and touching him, Jesus put himself ‘outside the community’ and is now forced to ‘stay outside in places where nobody lived’. This Lent, can we help those on the ‘outer’, within school, our family and the wider community? We can also reflect on times where we have been on the outer, what it felt like and who has supported us. It is important to remember that those on the ‘outer’ don’t have a neon sign over their head but are often quietly there, invisible to most. As we turn back towards God this Lent, let’s build relationships with those around us to be more aware of those needing our respectful support.

This Lent, each family will receive a box for Project Compassion, after assembly on Monday.  See the link to see where the funds raised this year go towards.  Project  Compassion

Every classroom also has a box, if you would like to donate. These boxes need to be returned on Monday 26th March to be collated and sent off to Project Compassion. The Year 6 Social Justice Captains together with the Social Justice Captains in all year levels, will lead this initiative.

Last Friday was a wonderful community celebration.  As we gathered together in prayer, at the 2018 Welcome Mass. It was lovely seeing so many parents and parishioners joining us and you are all warmly invited to all that we celebrate at St Finbar’s, especially toddlers and babies.  A highlight was the choir singing Day by Day as we received communion. We look forward to hearing much more from this talented group of students and their mentors Mrs Bouras and Mrs D’Rozario.
