Principal's Report

Ash Wednesday Mass

I would like to thank all of our Students and Staff for the wonderful celebration on Wednesday in the Church.  Special thanks go to Mrs Ferrari for her organisation of the mass and the many helpers working behind the scenes.  My sincere thanks also to Mrs Bouras and Mrs D'Rozario for the preparation of the School Choir who sang the reflection song.  We have some very talented people here at St. Finbar's both Staff and Students!

Shrove Tuesday Breakfast

Thank you to our wonderful Parents who coordinated the Shrove Tuesday breakfast this week.  It was a great way for our community to come together to observe this important event on our religious calendar.

Welcome Picnic

Don't forget our annual Welcome picnic is scheduled for Friday 23rd February from 5pm to 8pm.  I hope to see you all there!  Please refer to the Parents and Friends section of this newsletter for more information.

Parents & Friends Meeting

Thanks to Christina Ryan, James Davies and the Parents and Friends Association for the amazing meeting on Tuesday evening.  It was so invigorating to be in a room of people whose skills and expertise is being used for the benefit of our St. Finbar's Children.  Thanks also to Mrs Cathy Ferrari and Mr Steele Anderson for their attendance as well as our new Community Sphere Leaders.

Assembly and Student Leadership

Please consider, if you have the time, to come along to our assemblies on Monday afternoon.  Assemblies start at 2:50pm and finish at 3:30pm.  This is a wonderful way to see the exciting learning that is happening in our community as well as to keep up to date with the various leadership portfolios from our students.  This week we presented all of our Year 6 students with their leadership badges as well as the P -5 classroom positions of: Sustainability leaders, Social Justice Leaders and Student Representative Council.  There is also a weekly presentation form one of our classes on the learning that they have been doing.

Ukulele Club

Well done to Mrs Bouras on the successful start of the Ukulele Club.  There were many excited students learning the different chords and a new song!  Mr Rodrigues, Mrs Drinan and I were also avid students for this session.

Student Winter Jacket

We are well on our way to finalising the student winter jacket.  Please find attached HERE a short google survey for parents to have your say on the two different jackets we have shortlisted.  These jackets have been discussed at the recent school board and P & F meetings. The students in the SRC will be meeting today/tomorrow to make their recommendations as well.  The school winter Jacket will replace the many different jackets that have creeped into our winter wear collection over the past 12 months.

Sibling Enrolments for 2019

I would ask that parents who have a child commencing in Prep 2019 to please enrol their child by Friday 23rd February so we can see how many places will be available to new families for 2019.   Enrolment forms can be downloaded from the following link:

St Finbar's Enrolment Form

Sibling enrolment interviews will happen THIS term.

Open Days

Our school Open Days for 2019 enrolments will be held on Friday 2nd March 9:15am – 11:00am (Presentation at 10am) and Tuesday 6th March 12:00pm – 1:30pm (Presentation at 12:45pm).  This is an excellent opportunity for interested families to see St. Finbar’s students and staff in action.  School tours will be conducted by our Year 6 student leaders.

Swimming Trials

Well done to our students who showed up early on Monday morning for our school swimming trials.  Special thanks to Mrs Thompson and the many staff who assisted.  Our final trial session is tomorrow (Friday) morning at GESAC from 7:15am.

Facebook and Seesaw

Don't forget to get onto our Facebook site to see the amazing learning opportunities that are happening each week here at St. Finbar's.  It has been exciting to see the increased use of Seesaw over the past week.  What a great way for family to see what your child has been achieving at school!

Meet the Teacher interviews

Today was the last day of the 'Meet the Teacher' interviews.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teaching staff for their time for these important meetings.  I would also like to acknowledge the incredible organisation work from Mrs Yvette Porter that has gone on in the background ensuring these meetings happen as seamlessly as possible.  Please remember that if you have any concerns or issues pertaining to your child/ren, the classroom teachers are only too happy to assist you as your first port of call.
