Swimming Trials Update: (Year 3-6)
This week has seen all our keen Year 3 – 6 swimmers (and supportive parents and siblings) rise out of bed early to attend our Swimming Trials at GESAC from 7am – 8.15am! Tomorrow (Friday) is our final trial morning for students keen to try out for breaststroke and backstroke events. Many thanks to all parents/guardians for getting their children up and out of bed on time to greet staff on pool deck – we appreciate your efforts! I’d also like to personally thank the amazing support of many of our staff who have volunteered their time to help me out with these trials as well – we’re very lucky to have such supportive and generous help!
We are hoping to finalise the Swim team by this Friday afternoon and will post the Swim Team lists up on the windows outside the Friendship Courtyard (opposite the Library entrance). A note will also go out to all Swim Team members outlining the events your child has been selected for as well as information regarding two optional training sessions for Swim Team members. Training will be again held at the GESAC pool; on Tuesday 20/2 & Friday 23/2, both from 7.15 - 8.15am. Parents will once again be responsible for getting their child to and from the pool on those days.
DENDY TENNIS REPRESENTATIVES
We wish Jasmine F (5A) and Lucas D (5A) all the very best for tomorrow as they represent our school at the Dendy ‘Beachside Tennis’ Tryouts. They will both travel to St. Patrick’s Murrumbeena to participate in a FAST 4 round-robin tennis tournament against other 12&U Dendy District tennis players. We hope you both have a great day!

*Friday 9th March: Beachside Division Swimming Carnival, Oakleigh Rec Pool (note: School Closure Day)
*Friday 16th March: Year P-6 (whole school) Inter-House Athletics Carnival, Sandringham Athletics Track, Glamis Ave, Hampton.
*Monday 19th – Wednesday 28th March: Year 3&4 Swimming Program
*Monday 26th March: Lightning Premiership Soccer: (relevant Year 5&6 students only).
School Sport Victoria (SSV) State Team Trials information:
SSV Basketball, Netball, AFL & Soccer: Information regarding the selection process for SSV State Team trials is now available on the new SSV website: http://www.ssv.vic.edu.au
Please also refer to the website for SSV trials for Golf, Cricket & Diving.
IMPORTANT: These trials are NOT a ‘come & try’ / will be a ‘good experience’ opportunity. SSV only invite students if they are ‘extremely talented’ within their sport (played rep level, won League B&F (not just club level), play at the highest level for that 12&U age group.
PROCESS FOR St. Finbar’s students: St. Finbar’s requests a letter or email written by the child’s coach outlining the student’s outstanding skill level and achievements. We encourage only students of a Year 5 or Year 6 level consider these trials. Before nominating your child online, all parents MUST have permission obtained via our School Sports Coordinator; Tania Thompson. Leadership, PE staff and teachers will consult to make an informed decision regarding their application and families will be notified.

HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
WHEN: Friday 16th March
WHERE: Sandringham Athletics Centre, Hampton
PARENTS: To successfully run this whole-school carnival, we require the help from many of our wonderful parents! Please look in your diaries now and block out a half or full day if at all possible.
