Ready for Maths! 

Our students have made a wonderful start to 2020 counting, adding, subtracting, dividing and problem solving!

Numeracy (Maths) is a crucial part of our teaching and learning at Numurkah Primary School, as teachers and students work daily to improve their Number knowledge and skills.

We learn how to use a variety of mental strategies, such as counting forward, adding on, or takeaway, to solve problem tasks. We also encourage our students to use concrete materials such as building blocks and counters to support them with their visual understanding of concepts being explored.

Our students also work hard to build their automatic response to number, which means learning things off by heart, such as counting to 100. At home you can ask your child to count anything, it may be the number of strawberries in the container, or how many apples do we need if everyone eats 4 for the week. We are all looking forward to an exciting year ahead of maths learning!
