WEBCOMP BEGINS

This week sees the start of the Grok Learning Web Comp Challenge for Beginners using HTML and CSS. Unlike usual competitions, this challenge runs over five weeks and each week students will LEARN concepts in HTML and CSS which they are then asked to apply in meeting set web creation challenges. 

The cost to students is $10 for the challenge, and the learning materials are available for a whole year, so even if the students are busy at the moment with exams, they can always come back to the lessons later.

So far we have 17 students entered, but the first week is an introduction week and it is not too late to join us. If you are interested in finding out more, you can try out the first week of lessons for free by going to https://groklearning.com/competition/webcomp-beginners-2015/

There is plenty of online assistance available, but we are also focusing on the Challenge during Code.Club on Mondays at lunchtime in A3 where Mr Munro and Ms Hatch are willing to help with the concepts (with no solutions to the Challenge tasks given!)

DIGITAL LOGIC IN CONTROL TECHNOLOGY

Year 9 students in Control Technology have been coming to grips with logic circuits. This is almost like learning a new language as they negotiate their way through logic symbols, logic circuits, truth tables and Boolean expressions.

Most students are finding that, once you know the language, the concept is not difficult at all.
