LANGUAGES VIDEO TESTIMONIALS

The Languages Video Testimonials is an online communications resource promoting the benefits of learning a language and targeting secondary students, school leaders, parents and the wider community.  The online resource comprises twenty video testimonials – four by principals and teachers and sixteen by past students of languages in Victorian schools talking about how learning a language at school has impacted positively on their personal and professional lives.

SPANISH VISITORS ARRIVING SOON

We are looking forward to welcoming two staff and two students from IES Fernando Zobel in July through to August.

Thank you to all McKinnon families that offered their home to host one of our Spanish visitors. We are sorry that we had to disappoint some families, but I am sure there will be more opportunities for hosting students from other countries in the future.  Thank you again for your generous offers. 

LANGUAGE PERFECT - WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

With 62% of participation, 1200 students, as well as 48 staff members, and 19 languages learned during these ten days we exceeded our expectations. Our goal was to reach a position in the Top 10 this year, but we did not expect this great result:

4th overall globally (out of 1077 schools)

3rd overall in Australia (out of 737 schools)

1st overall in the 1001-2500 students category (out of 27 schools)

2nd overall in VICTORIA (out of 203 schools)

2nd overall in Russian (out of 588 schools)

6th overall in German (out of 836 schools)

1st in VICTORIA for the 1001-2500 students category (out of 9 schools)

17th overall in French (out of 905 schools)

3rd overall in Greek (out of 576 schools)

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Total Questions Answered at McKinnon Secondary College: 1,618,993

Total hours spent learning 19 languages:  9089

We would like to congratulate especially Phoebe Dunn and Sankalpa Rao, who came 3rd and 4th in German out of more than 6500 students participating in the German Language.

We would also like to congratulate Eui Jeong Seo and Bianca Denisenko for achieving a 13th and 19th place in French out of more than 13000 students.

Congratulations also to our staff members, Ms Hatch in 1st place, Miss Gordon in 2nd and Ms Gill in 3rd place.

Congratulations to Gilmore House for winning the Language Perfect House competition, followed by Monash House in 2nd, Flynn in 3rd and Chisholm in 4th place. Points will be awarded to contribute to the overall House Competition.
