BUILDING FUND

In recent years many families and ex-students have made generous donations to our tax-deductible Building Fund.  The College plans to use such funds to support the next stage of our redevelopment of the College’s facilities, funding for which was announced in the Victorian State Budget in May.  This next stage will include the construction of new Science laboratories, general purpose classrooms, toilets and senior study centre - replacing many facilities built in the early 1950s.

Further information about our building fund and the next stage of our redevelopment can be found on our website at http://www.mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au/p/building-fund.html. On behalf of the staff and students of McKinnon, we sincerely thank all those who have contributed to our Building Fund.

EXAMINATIONS

All students in Years 9, 10 and 11 are currently completing exams.  Teachers and students put in a significant amount of additional work to ensure that academic excellence is achieved by all those who seek it.  This is a busy and challenging time for students and teachers alike, and we congratulate them for the efforts. Many senior students are also about to undertake the VCAA General Achievement Test (the GAT) on Wednesday 10 June and we wish them well in this important task.

MYKI TICKETS

Many excursions require students to provide their own ticket for public transport.  Before any excursion using public transport, students must ensure they have a myki that has a positive balance. Read more at http://www.myki.com.au/

SCHOOLMATE APP

The Department of Education and Training has released an app which is designed to help parents better understand the curriculum we use to teach your children every day.

The app, called SchoolMate, is available for free download now in the App Store for iPhones and iPads and in Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

SchoolMate gives you a general overview of the Victorian Curriculum in each subject at each year level and:

  • Provides you with an overview of what your children are learning in each subject at each year level according to the Victorian curriculum (AusVELS);
  • Provides you with tips regarding activities and things you can do at home to help your kids in each subject and year level;
  • Suggests apps, books, events and activities related to each subject area and year level.

Our school, like all other government schools in Victoria, uses AusVELS as the basis for the learning programs we run at school every day.

Our teachers adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of our students, to deliver on our goal to develop confident, active global citizens and to prepare students for the rigours of the VCE and tertiary study.

SchoolMate is designed to give you an overview of what children are expected to learn in Victorian government schools across every subject from Prep to Year 10, and we encourage you to download it.
