Prep Kitchen Garden

On the menu last week for the Prep students was flatbread and salad toppings. The students had a great time mixing the Greek yoghurt and self raising flour, then kneading and rolling it into balls to flatten with a rolling pin and fry in a pan. They cut up salad ingredients to place on top to make a wrap. With some smashed avocado, the students devoured their flatbread.

The garden activity involved making a terrarium with a preloved plastic bottle. The students filled the plastic bottles with pebbles, charcoal granules, sphagnum moss, soil, a succulent and topped off with decorative pebbles. The students can observe their plant learning to survive in its own environment relying on evaporation and condensation as a water source.

Big thank you to all the parents for providing your child with a plastic bottle. I hope you enjoy your new terrariums.

This week the Prep students made Gingerbread cookies decorated with icing and smarties. This was such a fun activity and the students were heard to say "This is the best day ever!" Linking the cooking to their literacy really enhances their learning.

Their craft activity involved reusing cd's to make a Christmas decoration. Using paint with PVA glue the students decorated them using Christmas symbols and lines. We will finish these off next week and send them home.

Here are some photos of their activities.

Year 4M Kitchen Garden

It was 4M's turn to make potato chips and broccoli bites in their kitchen session last week. They learnt how laborious a task it is to peel and chop a large amount of potatoes! But many hands make light work so the task was completed well, although with the use of brushed potatoes it was a messy task! Broccoli bites were made showcasing how a little breadcrumbs and cheese can make almost all vegetables much more appealing.

4M took over from 4SD when creating art with bottle tops. As you can see from the photos the art is taking shape.
