Principal's Report

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome to our final newsletter of 2022. It’s been another extremely busy year at the college and there is much to be grateful for and lots to celebrate.

On Monday, VCE results will be made available to our students. Waiting for these results is always a nervous time for both students and teachers alike! Our 2022 Year 12 cohort were a wonderful group of young people who worked hard and supported each other through a very challenging year. I’m sure they will all find themselves on a pathway toward a very successful future in the tertiary education or employment opportunity of their choosing. We look forward to sharing the success of our 2022 VCE students with our community soon.

This year's Awards Ceremony was held at the college so that we could maximise the number of students coming together to celebrate the achievements of their peers. It’s always a great pleasure to see students in front of their friends and teachers accepting awards for academic excellence, academic endeavour, sporting excellence, all rounder awards and other special awards. I’d like to personally congratulate and thank all our 2022 award recipients for their hard work and dedication to learning. You’ve done us all proud!

Every new year brings a change in staffing at schools. This year we will be saying ‘good bye’ to some long serving staff members who have made the decision to either retire from their career in education or resign from CSC. Some of these staff have taught multiple generations of Colac families while others have contributed to our school in support roles. I’d like to say farewell to John Ingram, Di Rhodes, Jackie McGoldrick, Terry McNamara and Sue Spiers.

We also have some staff members who have gained employment elsewhere (closer to their homes) or their contracts are coming to an end. We therefore offer our best wishes to James Neves, Claire Oppermann, Ned Holland, Conor McKinnon, Simone Senisin and Harleen Kaur.

Next year we also have a number of staff members taking extended periods of leave. We hope that Karen Tomlinson, Robyn Everett, David Everett, Zen Rantall and Jo Isaac enjoy this time.

As some staff leave, it creates opportunities for new staff members to join us.

In 2023 we will be welcoming the following staff to the CSC community:

  • Skye Bannan - Assistant Principal, Wellbeing & Engagement
  • Neil Cole - (returning) STEM, Year 10 Year Level Manager
  • Carlo Manly - (returning) English / Humanities
  • Elise Badham - (returning) English / Humanities
  • Sam Campbell - Health & PE
  • Dylan Starkie - Health & PE
  • Rory Quinn - Maths / PE
  • Ian Harris - Humanities
  • Melissa Barnes - Humanities / English
  • Jordan Moloney - Humanities / English
  • Tayla Leersen - Humanities / English
  • Leticia Barnett - Science
  • Amy Hammond - Science
  • Leanne Corkran - Food Technology
  • Heidi Barling - Agriculture / Horticulture / Science

We are very excited at the high calibre staff we have been able to recruit to the CSC team and look forward to seeing them working with our students next year.

Finally, I’d like to wish all members of the CSC community a very happy, healthy and safe Christmas and New Year. I hope you all enjoy the summer break, spend time connecting with family and friends and return in 2023 feeling refreshed and ready for another great year at Colac Secondary College.

Take care,

Shane Elevato
