Wellbeing

FAREWELL from the Sensational 2022 Wellbeing Leaders….

Early in Term one we had a whole school incursion called ‘Saving Lil and Archie’ with a focus on Cybersafety, Wellbeing and Anti-bullying. We loved this show and there was great learning too.

On Prader-Willi Fundraising day everyone wore orange and brought a $2 gold coin donation to help the Prader-Willi Association of Victoria. Diana came to speak with us about Prader-Willi.

SWELL stands for Student Wellbeing. So on SWELL day, which was held in Term one, we had a whole day to support students to meet more students from other classes and the teachers also. We attended groups of fun activities hosted by many teachers. Then we had these activities weekly for the next 5 weeks.

During Term 2 we had a collection for Coats for Kids where we collected coats for people living in poverty who need coats to make it through the freezing cold Winter. Impressively, we collected many coats for young children right through to adults.

Weekly library sessions is a (you’ll never guess) weekly activity where students can use laptops for games, robotics, read books and play board games every Wednesday. Gardening Club has been hosted by Shellie and Mr P but apparently it has nothing to do with gardening club right now as it’s more weed picking.

As Wellbeing leaders, throughout the year we were fortunate enough to participate in many different activities. SWELL Art was incredibly enjoyable! SWELL Art was when each SWELL group would go to the art room on Wednesday afternoons. In Term 3 & 4 we learned pottery and we also did some painting! We had three amazing parents helping us all-Faith, Jen and Danette. We will miss them next year!

In Term 3 we organised a fundraiser for ‘Pets Of The Homeless’. ‘Pets of the Homeless’ donates pet necessities to people who are less fortunate who want to be able to keep and provide for their pets. To raise money for this charity, we asked students, teachers and LSO’s to bring in a picture of their pets with a donation of money. We managed to raise over $300.00.

Throughout the year, the Wellbeing leaders met up on most Wednesdays at recess or lunchtime or both. We discussed ideas and planned for future events. Raf and Kai, our fellow Wellbeing leaders, joined us along with Mrs Holmes.

On many Thursday lunch times, we would host Passive Play. Passive Play is when kids who wanted to do quiet activities could come into the Community Centre. We played things such as card games, wooden building planks, chess, drawing and lots more. Ask us about taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza….!!

In Term four, the Wellbeing leaders provided games in the junior school area for the Prep-2 children. We took it in turns and each Monday at lunchtime we gathered any juniors that wished to participate and share in our activity. We have led fun activities such as sport, drawing, origami, skipping, paper planes and more.

The Wellbeing Leader-Mrs. Holmes organised other activities for the school. This included a Peaceful Kids program, A Be Wise- Pat Cronin Foundation program and Puberty Education lessons for the 5/6s. Lego Club was also run in the Community Centre and was very popular. Thank you to Kristy and Tahj for their weekly attendance and commitment.

We have loved our time as Wellbeing Leaders at OLHC and hope that next year's leaders love it too (though they will never be as good as us)

CARDS OF KINDNESS

Some of the children at OLHC will be participating in this activity to make someone feel extra special during this festive season, which can be a sad and isolating time for many people. These cards can be delivered to the Eltham Library. I know our efforts will make someone very happy.

Take a look at wise Mrs Vines getting ready for the Pat Cronin Foundation walk. She is here with the mascot of the wise owl who is a special logo for this foundation. You see, Pat Cronin loved to draw owls. The children from Year 1-4 have been learning about Skipper the Owl during their SEL ‘Be Wise’ lessons and the pledge to-

Be Wise
Think Carefully
Act Kindly

Best wishes for the busy days of December.

Enjoy
