Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s,
Thank you to the parents, carers and boys who supported the event, and a particular thanks to those staff who organised and ran the evening, including preparing the boys to ensure it was a fitting way to mark their achievements in 2022. A community that celebrates the achievements of its members is a strong community – and a strong community helps lift every one of its members to greater heights. Our Thanksgiving & Awards Evening is our major annual celebration of achievement at St Virgil’s College, covering the academic, religious, cultural and sporting domains of student life and showcasing a range of student musical talents. Thank you to all who attended, to all the staff who contributed to the organisation and running of the evening, and in particular to Mr Daniel Lapolla – Deputy Principal for planning and coordinating a very successful event. The time and effort given to the evening is a sign of the importance we place on the achievements of our students.

Congratulations to Thomas Marr, College Captain 2023 and Charles Lennon, Vice-Captain and Connor Churchill, Student Voice in being appointed to these positions. Thomas, Charles and Connor were handed these leadership positions at our Thanksgiving & Awards Evening on Wednesday night by the 2022 College Captain Connor Churchill and Vice-Captain Harry Sylvester, who we thanked for their dedicated service this year. Connor spoke exceptionally well to those assembled reflecting how much he values being part of St Virgil’s College and has come to understand those values and apply them in his life and thinking in such a mature way. The College Student Prefects were also announced. We congratulate all of the boys on their appointments, and we look forward to working with them in 2023.

Our Year 10 students finished formal lessons this week with some moving to other Colleges or apprenticeships next year. The remainder of students will continue their education commencing Year 11 for the first time in more than 30 years at St Virgil’s College next year. This is an exciting time for this group and they will commence this journey next Monday December 5 when they commence Head Start Week.
The College had an opportunity to give thanks for the contribution of our Year 10 cohort at our Year 10 Mass which was held at St Bernard's Catholic Church where Fr Suresh offered the boys a blessing. This was followed by the Year 10 Luncheon where Student Leaders addressed their peers and offered their reflections on their time at the College. I thank Mr Daniel Lapolla, Miss Farron Boxall and the Heads of House for their organisation and support of our young men on the day. It was a great day of celebration, allowing our young men to give thanks for their time at St Virgil’s College.
Best wishes for the week ahead.
Jon Franzin
