Thank you!
Ummmm sorry where has this year gone? Unbelievably we are approaching our last week of school at St Anthonys for 2022.
Our students (and staff if we are being honest) are well and truly ready for a rest at this time of year. Students have worked so hard each term and shown great growth across the curriculum. Something that needs to be remembered is that this is also our first uninterrupted school year in two years, meaning students have spent more time at school.
Keeping this in mind we would like students to use this holiday break as a recharge for next year. Whatever the break looks like, we hope that our students and their families have a restful and joy filled break.
In regards to some good learning activities for the holidays, the following can help our students while still allowing them to rest and recuperate!
-Encouraging regular reading to continue over the holidays.
-With reading encouraging students to discuss what they have read. How is your book going? What just happened in the story? What are some words you would use to describe the book? Does this book remind you of anything else?
-Books make brilliant Christmas presents! Now more than ever stores have novels, comics and picture story books on topics the students adore like Marvel, Lego and more.
-Watching movies together! Followed by similar questions helps students engage and think about what they are watching.
-Encourage writing in full sentences. This might be writing thank you messages over Christmas, or completing gratitude statements a couple of days each week.
These are little things that can take place at home, and if done subtly students do not even realise they are doing tiny school like tasks!
What a year we have had at school! We celebrated our creative minds at school with our Writing Competition. We raised funds and encouraged students to read with our fantastic Book Fair. Through Book Week we had a wide range of talented authors and illustrators come to visit and speak and inspire our students. On top of all of this every single class in the school engaged in fantastic and engaging lessons in the area of English.
I would like to say a genuine and massive thank you to all parents for their support this year! It is such a pleasure to work with you all! Again I hope that the break is brilliant for all of our families.
We look forward to 2023 and another year of exciting opportunities for our staff and students.
Take care and Merry Christmas!
