Hello, from our students and teachers.

Hello and welcome to 2023 from 4/5 Wadley and Perley.

It has been a great start back to the new year. We have been busy getting to know each other, building relationships and setting up routines and expectations for our busy year ahead!

On Tuesday, we spent the morning discussing our 'Growth Mindset'. We looked at a fixed (negative) mindset compared to a growth (positive) mindset.

When we have a fixed mindset we say things like, "I can't do this", "I'm not good at this" and "This will do."

If we change our thinking to having a growth mindset we say, "This may take some time and effort", "I am going to try a different strategy" and "I will learn how to do this" instead!

We then watched a video of these adorable ducks which can be found here...

These little ducks struggle to get up stairs, but they never give up. And this is like learning. Some of us reach the top of the stairs quicker, some of us take a little longer. But in our own time and on our own journey, we make it to the top with hard work, persistence and lots of guidance and support along the way.

Next we made a visual representation to show the challenges of learning. This was called 'The Learning Pit'. We fall into the pit when starting a task but as long as we have some great strategies, we can climb our way out. Here are our drawings and strategies.

These posters will make a great display in our classroom to remind of us what we can do when we are starting to feel unsure. As learning is an individual journey where we need to be brave, have a go, make mistakes and have fun as we go.
