Acting Principal’s Message

Welcome to 2023!

Thank you to staff, students, parents and carers for what has been, on the whole, a particularly calm and smooth transition into the 2023 school year.

Congratulations to all new students on navigating your first days at your new school, particularly our new Foundation students who are still bounding excitedly through the gates each morning.

We also hope our 2022 Year Six Graduates have enjoyed a successful transition to secondary education this week.

Assembly & Student of the Week

Please note that due to this timing of this newsletter being after only 3 days of school, Students of the Week will be communicated via a Compass message early next week, to be presented at Assembly next Friday 10th of February from 2:45pm. Assemblies this term will then be fortnightly on Fridays from that date onwards.

You Tell Us - Meet the Teacher Meetings

A reminder that bookings are currently open through Compass for our "You Tell Us" meet the teacher meetings, which are to be held next Wednesday 8th of February. Staff are looking forward to the opportunity to meet with parents and carers and gain some important insights about their new students.

2023 Art Show and School Fair

Our sincere and ongoing thanks to the hardworking committees of parents and carers who are currently organising our 2023 Fair and Art Show, both of which are fast approaching. The Art Show opening is on Friday 17th March and continues during the Fair the following day on Saturday 18th March. Please keep and eye out for important updates and opportunities to get involved via Compass and this fortnightly newsletter. Both events also have a page on our website featuring lots of key information:

Volunteering at Robbie Mac

Throughout our history, our school community has had a very strong culture of volunteering, with dedicated community members working tirelessly to support the school in many and varied ways.

We all know that spare time is at a premium in our current times, and we remain as appreciative as ever of the work our community volunteers put in each year. If you have an interest in volunteering at Robbie Mac in 2023, our PFA (and Class Reps), the Art Show and the Fair are three excellent places to start! Please visit the pages for these groups in this newsletter and keep an eye on Compass for opportunities to get involved. Thank you!

Some important reminders:

SunSmart

A reminder that we are still in peak 'SunSmart' season. Please ensure all students have an approved hat. Opportunities to apply sunscreen will be provided by teachers.

Road Safety - Birdwood & Devon Street

Please be mindful of road rules before and after school, whether in a car or on foot. Cars must only stop as per street signage, and not within the restricted area either side of the Birdwood Street crossing. Disabled car parks must also be left clear for cars with permits displayed. Please also ensure that all community members are using the designated crossing wherever possible.

Road Safety - Haig Street

Community members have also raised concerns about safety on Haig Street before and after school, with students often crossing in an unsafe manner. We have asked City of Whitehorse to consider improvements to Haig Street, including a request for a new school crossing, however these requests have so far been unsuccessful.

Haig Street residents have also contacted the school to request that parents do not park cars across driveways before and after school.
