AROUND THE COLLEGE

Term 1

Student Voice

A group of students from Years 9 and 10 are taking part in the ‘Be Bold, Be Heard’ girls leadership program this year. This initiative is designed to build the students' leadership capabilities and student voice within the school. They participated in a forum with students from schools across the region, listening to a panel of inspirational women from a range of fields, and begun identifying challenges within our community that they would like to address. They will meet every three weeks to create a plan of action and work to create positive change in our school. We will have students contributing to future newsletters to share their work and ideas.

WHC Positive Behaviours celebration

Barton (Blue) House students were rewarded with a surprise pizza lunch on Tuesday for winning the WHC Positive Behaviours competition for the term!

Throughout this term, students have been awarded Green Notes points on Compass when they displayed any of our three school values - Community, Integrity and Courage

Barton House gained the most points for Term 1. Congratulations to the Blue students on a well-earned win!

First Nations Inclusion

This week our First Nations Western Heights College students met for the last meeting of Term 1.

Our group of students meet to discuss upcoming events, ways our school can be a voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and to spend time together. Our meetings usually occur once a month and we focus on creating and maintaining positive relationships between our First Nations students.

In Term 2 the group of students will participate in Aspirations Day to forge community connections and be introduced to a number of education pathways and opportunities.

Georgia and I look forward to hearing more from our First Nations students and to continuing to grow as a community.

WMR Swimming

Four boys represented WHC at the Western Metro Region Swimming competition at Kardinia Pool last Thursday.

First up was Jobe in the 13-Years 50m Freestyle, where he came a very respectable 5th. The four boys (Jobe, Finn, Levi and Najeeb) then represented us in the 14-Years Freestyle Relay, coming in at 4th. Awesome job by the team!

Get involved in a School Production!

As our school grows and develops in all areas across the curriculum, the Arts Team are discussing ways for students to have the opportunity to extend their skills in the area of performance.

A small-scale theatrical production is currently being considered however we are wanting to gauge interest from the student community to see who would be interested in being involved.

It is a project that would require commitment possibly over a lunch time and an after-school rehearsal each week. It would be developed during term 3 and possibly term 4 concluding with a performance for the school community.

If this interests you, could you please email Ms Doak on Vicki.Doak@education.vic.gov.au to let her know how you would like to be involved.

Canteen orders

A reminder that the Canteen will be ORDER ONLY for all main food items, such as salad rolls, sausage rolls, schnitzel burgers etc. The first 10 minutes of recess and lunch will be allocated to collection of food orders only. The canteen will then be open for any additional purchases of drinks, snack items, yogurts, sugar-free icy poles, sorbet etc.
