Camp Manyung

High Ropes ready :)

My favourite thing about Camp Manyung was the snorkeling in the beautiful ocean. It was amazing to see the eleven legged starfish that I have never seen before. It was awesome to see new species I that never seen.  My group and I saw a banjo shark that was swimming under all of us boys. It was shaped like a stingray but the tale is like a shark. We also saw a puffer fish that was swimming under the coral, it had big eyes and looked weird but cool at the same time.

The first day at camp we did flying fox and treetops, there were two groups, the first group went and did flying fox and the second group went and did treetops. I was in group one and did flying fox. When it was my turn I was so scared but Miss Bella come up to me and said "if you go on the flying fox, I’ll go after you.’’ Miss Bella went straight after me and it made me feel entertained. I found the giant swing really unexpected, it was ginormous!!

I think camp was a really great opportunity.

Ahhh! I hear the voice of one of my friends screaming after going from the top of the Giant Swing. I could feel my heart starting to beat fast as I put on the vest knowing that I'm going 18m high and that I am going on that soon. “Sophie it’s your turn now” Mr Michael said. I went to the worker who checked my vest. I could feel my heart beating faster. I take three deep breaths and go to the ladder where I climb up and hook myself up to the ropes. She explains to me how to pull the rope to go down, then she tells me if I want a safe word to say stop when I want. I tell her I don't need one in a brave voice. I'm just hanging in the air when she pulls the ladder away from me I start going up higher and higher the boys are asking if I need to stop I say “no!”

When I get to the top I pull the rope and I feel my body drop,

I can see the ocean and the sun shining in my eyes. It was so fun I wish I could do it again.

Back a few weeks ago our school set off on a journey to a mysterious place called… CAMP MANYUNG! And while we were there we did a lot of marvelous activities, like the big swing when we soared through the air dangling by a thick rope, the flying fox when we flew 120 metres on a swing, the tree top challenge when we adventured across a series of challenging tasks on zip lines and many other things! But my all time favourite was…. KAYAKING! I don’t know why I was all dramatic, but I do not care!

The thing that made it my favourite was that we had a lot of challenging things to do while

doing it, but it was still fun! Like having good balance, being in time with your friend, having good strategies and more.

I remember when we first got on I felt scared because normally we would throw a rock in the water to see if a croc was in there, which was quite silly to think of since they can’t live here. Still I was scared. I sat in the end and Shaylee sat at the front. We had a small argument because she originally was going to be in the back, but I heard her say she wanted me to go in the back so that’s what we did. When we got in the water, I don’t want to say it felt like flying across a barrier because it felt more dangerous than that, like having a rope around you carefully gliding you across thick ooze. I felt confused because our kayak was going from side to side, so in my mind I knew one of us had stronger arm strength which took over the kayak like a mind control thing, but I didn’t tell Shaylee because I felt too focused on getting us to the destination. I kept telling Shaylee what to do, because I thought since being at the back made me a captain because I could see what we were doing wrong.

The games were absolutely fun because I kept laughing because we just went in zig-zags. I liked the way back, it was calm and some people made it a race thing. If everyone were to participate including us we would’ve gotten second place. A couple people fell out of their kayak and they blamed it on someone which was funny because they kept on yelling at them.
