Year 10 Mad About Media

Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI)

On Wednesday 26th April, the Year 10 Mad About Media class went to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in the city to view ‘The Story of the Moving Image Exhibition’ and Top Screen with their teacher, Mrs Walker.

In Media, the students have been learning about the production process to complete their group production. The class got an opportunity to view the top 2022 VCE Media student films of the year on the big screen. This exciting program contains animation, documentary and fiction from the next generation of Victorian filmmakers.

“Considering I love movies, I really enjoyed watching all the student-made films, and I was amazed how good the movies were considering they were all made by students and probably had a low budget. My favourite film was called ‘Earl Dreams of Apple’” and it is on YouTube if you want to watch it. I personally loved this one because I am very fascinated by dreams and this film really captures the surrealism of dreams”

Patrick Johnson 10E

Afterwards, they we able to go to the exhibition which highlighted how inventors, innovators and artists have used light and shadow, time and movement, colour and sound over time to tell stories and celebrate the wonder of the moving image. The student saw the level of creativity and effort that goes behind the scenes in producing a film. This allowed them to delve deeper into the stories and ideas behind the things they've learnt and collected to prepare for their final SAC which is their own film production.

“I enjoyed the excursion. It was really fun! I felt like I was in my natural habitat because I got to touch a lot of the stuff and it made me happy.”

Sarina Mahdavi 10D

“The excursion was fun, I learnt lots about media and movie production. I liked how they included things from games and popular movies like “Thor: Love and Thunder”
