As the acting Principal for term two, while Trevor Smith takes a well-earned break, I would like to thank the Princes Hill SC community for their support and for making me feel so welcome during my first four weeks.

I feel extremely privileged and grateful to lead the school during this time. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many school community members so far, and I look forward to working with the staff, students, families, and wider school community for the remainder of the term.

There have been many highlights and school events so far this term.

Music Concerts are always well attended and showcase outstanding student talent and the dedication of our music department staff. Over one hundred year 7 to 12 students attended the Music Camp in Safety Beach earlier this term, allowing for ensembles to work intensively on repertoire and for the students to build friendships and a sense of community in the Music Department.

We have a number of upcoming music events. You can book for the Music concerts using the links later in the newsletter.  We thank Yarra City Council as a major sponsor of our Unplugged Music Night at Collingwood Town Hall starting at 6:30pm on 21st June, 2023.

On the evening of Friday 5 May, the Student Council hosted a fundraising event with 80% of the proceeds going to the Türkiye and Syria Earthquake Relief and 20% going to Student Council initiatives. Student Council reached out to the school and broader community and received an incredible array of donations for the raffle and auction plus an extremely generous donation to provide all the food and drinks during the evening. The community support and atmosphere during the evening event were superb. The dedication and leadership of the student council were impressive, with three months of organisation and hard work resulting in over $17,000 being raised. This is an outstanding outcome. Information sessions for 2024 prospective families were during the first week of May. They were well attended by many grade 6 students and their families, keen to learn about the College, its values, curriculum structure, extensive co-curricular program and the perspective of current year 7 and 9 students. The presentation is available from the school website enrol page for those families who could not attend and are seeking enrolment in 2024. Special thanks to the Year 7 and 9 students who assisted as presenters, performers and ushers on the evening.

School tours: Due to the change in the Department's placement policy, many parents continue to enquire about enrolling at PHSC. We have now scheduled more school tour dates to accommodate this interest. Click here to book.

As we all know, schools cannot run without the work and support of our wonderful Education Support staff. To show our appreciation, we held a special morning tea on Tuesday 16 May, the 2023 Education Support Appreciation Day.

Wednesday 17 May was IDAHOBIT- the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. Students and staff celebrated and showed their support on the day by wearing their best rainbow clothes and/or accessories.
