Extended School Day

Thank you to all of the students and staff who have made term 1 ESD a lovely success. There were disruptions with some very special events like Student Led Conferences and Campus Community celebrations but I think the students had some great outcomes.

PERFORMING and VISUAL ARTS IN P-8

VISUAL ARTS

Students in our P-8 campuses have been working hard on an easter display for Corio Shopping Centre. Each campus was given an egg to decorate which are displayed around the shopping centre. Students were really proud to be creating something for the community as well as entering the competition! When you go in an see the eggs, you will see a QR code on them. Click on this to vote for your favourite egg in the shopping centre (a clue Northern Bay eggs are numbers 1,2,3 and 4). So don't forget to go in and vote

Performing Arts

Over the last two weeks we saw our Victorian State School Spectacular students begin the start of their Spectacular journey for 2023. Our 16 Mass Dancers went to Western Heights to work with the choreographers and learnt the start of 6 dancers. This year we have a number of new dancers in our group who said it was so much fun even though they made lots of mistakes. Our 28 Mass Choir group hosted our Choir rehearsal at Peacock campus and had four other school join us. Working with the choir master they learnt 8 of their 14 songs and REALLY ENJOYED IT!

ASCEND - IMPACT (Elective program Yrs 7 & 8

As part of a visual arts unit our Year 7/8 ascend IMPACT class studied the art work of Clarice Beckitt, an Australian artist in the 1930's. Beckit used to take photographs of the world around her and then create her image of how she saw the picture - capturing the essence of streetscapes and nature. Students took a photo of an image outise in the school ground and then reproduce their photos in the style of Beckitt.

Dream (picture below)

Today was awesome, We learnt from our coach Emily, all about who  Clarie Beckett was and what type of art she did including her art inspiration (her art was inspired by different locations). After we learnt a bit about her we had to go out and take a photo of outside (anywhere) for a reference. Then we got a piece of the good paper so we could draw and use our reference, so then we could use the chalk pastel to do a inspired piece                                                                                            from Claire's art style.

All of my friends drawings were so cool and all of them including Mrs Baluch and Emily thought mine was really good. I was really proud of this piece, i think i did my best and it turned out how I imagined it.

Jessica

Last week we made oil pastels drawing  in the Clarice Beckett style. i made a outside scene that i saw through the window. Emily taught me some of art techniques and showed us how to blend  colours for the sky.  Emily also showed me how to do trees and it was so fun learning the new techniques.

Thanks to the support of the Geelong Art Gallery our class was then invited to see the Clarice Beckitt exhibition, which displayed many of her famous works, including scenes around the Geelong area.

IMPACT Year 9

The Year 9 IMPACT group are working towards writing their own old fashioned radio show, which they will go into a recording studio and perform.  They will be learning about how sound works in a story and how it helps add dimension has been the main concept of this project. Throughout the project they have already worked with actors and authors.

We also had a first hand look at current radio  with a visit to K-ROCK / BAY FM and seeing a past Corio student Craig Meddings.

When we went to see K-Rock and Bay 93.9  they showed us the radio station and what people did for their job. (sales, talking on the radio etc. etc)  It was interesting seeing what they did and how they cooperate within the station while on air. (which means live on the radio) Jazmin

Year 10 IMPACT

The Year 10 IMPACT students have been learning about stage make up and special effects from local artist Emily Raftas. Emily worked as a stage make up artist for 4 years in London on West End.

The 1MPACT students loved learning the many skills and procedures they needed to accomplish the final looks. Many were also keen to learn this skill as the are heading to Comic Con later in the year and can not wait to be able to apply their learnt skills to their costumes. The unit concluded with a visit to Melbourne Polytechnic Tafe in Melbourne where students saw where these skills can lead them in the future.

Having completed their look the students also had to be photographed on a green screen and send Emily their choice of ackground effect they thought would complement their look.

Some terrific work here.

Mary Poppins

All IMPACT students  Ascend 7 -8, Year 9 and Year 10 were invited to go and see Mary Poppins at Her Majesty's Theatre.

Our first live performance for 2023 has been Mary Poppins. 23 students took up the offer to attend and everyone was very excited to be attending the show - and they were not disappointed.

It was amazing, the lights, songs and costumes were fornomanal, I loved it (my favourite was the chatter box store owner, she was amazing). Definitely recommend if you want to go

Dream

This week we went to Mary Poppins in Melbourne and it was about 2 hours long. my favourite part was when Mary Poppins flew into the roof. she flew above the crowd and then went through a little door in the roof. Jessica

We went and saw Mary Poppins as a musical. I don’t usually like musicals, but I went because there was an opportunity to do something I don’t usually do, and I found that I actually quite liked it. I absolutely love how she had flown over us as the show was ending. I also loved all the lights and bright colours, and how Bert was tap dancing on top of the stage. Maddie

IMPACT

It has been a very full month for SEED students and Mrs Dick always has up to date news and activities on the College Facebook Pages about sports across the college which of course culminates in SEED senior Squad for Years 11 and 12.

This month all levels of SEED students received their SEED tops which they will proudly wear during SEED sessions.

In a wonderful new development SEED has arranged for coaches to now attend the P-8 Campuses for their very own Track Club. This has been a major success at Goldsworthy and we have listened to the Year 6 through 8 students who want to improve their running skills. This flier gives the days of the week for each campus. Younger students with high potential may also be identified for support. Participation will only be with parental / carer approval.
