STEM

Students celebrated their STEM learning in Term One by applying their knowledge and skills to the Learning Tasks. Preps made descriptive dioramas for selected animals while Grade Ones and Twos compiled a booklet about plants and their needs. Grade Threes and Fours showcased their learning about living things and life cycles in making posters, while Grade Fives and Sixes were impressively creative with their diorama-making project. All grades celebrated and shared their learning projects by participating in a gallery walk.

In the second term, the STEM learning focus for Grade One to Six is Design Technology. This unit will develop their knowledge and skills in design technology to critically analyse design solutions and to creatively engage in design challenges. Preps will explore movements and factors affecting the motion of objects in physical science. In the first week of STEM,  They were excited to do the science activity 'bubbles inside bubbles.

Grade Ones and Twos started learning about materials and responsible waste disposal in unit one. Following this understanding, they will explore how important recycling is to save resources. Further, they will design simple products using recycled and reusable materials.

Grade Threes and Fours were excited to explore what makes materials to be different from each other. They learnt the properties of materials and how we use the properties of materials in design solutions. Following the Engineering Design Process, they will identify an issue in the school community to address by designing a useful product as a design solution.

Grade Fives and Sixes brainstormed to identify the role of Design Technology in an increasingly technologically modern world. They will learn the steps, Engineering Design Process and will apply them to improve an area of technology by planning and creating a prototype.
