Grade 3 - 4
Reading
This term in reading we are looking at many different areas. In the first two weeks we have looked at the Author’s Purpose and formulated different types of sentences. In addition, we have had a focus on strategies such as decoding as well as differentiating between the definitions of different homophones.
Writing
This term we are beginning to look at recount writing. Students have had a great time learning all about the structures of recounts in our first week back. This week students played a fun game outside in the sunshine and have been working on writing a recount on this experience. It has been fantastic to see the students really focusing on how to write interesting recounts full of great language!
Maths
Term 2 started with our feet hitting the ground. Maths have seen the students looking at location & Transformation as well as length. They have been busy measuring everything in the class with different types of measuring units. They have also been identifying the different types of turns objects can make and had loads of fun directing their teachers using directions such as turn anticlockwise!
Humanities
We’ve started our humanities unit by looking at Climates in Australia and what that impact has on native plants and animals. Students have enjoyed creating maps, summarising information and creating posters to share with their peer groups.
Respectful Relationships
The students have continued their development in respectful relationships by focusing on coping strategies as well as strong emotions. Throughout the term we will continue to grow as a cohort in this area, becoming more aware of emotions and how to treat one another.
Language Conventions
We have started the term with a focus on punctuation. Students have been developing their understanding of punctuation such as capital letters, full stops and commas. Students have been editing their previous writing pieces and identifying where they feel they can add punctuation to make their writing pieces their personal best.
