Grade 1

Reading

In Reading, students continued to practise the skill of Decoding. They worked on identifying the individual sounds they could see in words and then blended them together to read fluently.

Writing

In Writing, students have started a new unit on Information Reports. They have learnt the purpose of an information report is to present facts about a specific object, animal, person or place. They have explored the structure of this text type and how they can use adjectives to add detail to their writing.

Maths

During the last fortnight in Maths, students have continued their learning of number and place value. Students worked on counting forwards and backwards from a given number as well as skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. They also engaged in a variety of hands-on activities to consolidate their learning of place value, specifically using icy pole sticks and unifix cubes to explore ones and tens.

Grade 1 students have also started their new Maths unit on shape where they will begin to learn all about 2D and 3D shapes, as well as their features and where they can be recognised in the environment around them.

Integrated

Last week during Integrated, the Grade One students learnt about ANZAC Day and why we commemorate this day. They learnt about the poppies and created a poppy display. Students also enjoyed reading the story ANZAC Ted and completed a directed drawing of ANZAC Ted.

Wellbeing

Students learnt about what it means to be a Bucket Filler or Bucket Dipper. They investigated what the different behaviours and actions are for each one. We collaboratively sorted some images into two sections; Bucket Filling or Bucket Dipping. It has been great to see the students referring to this lesson in the yard during recess and lunch.
