A Day in Grade 2
Grade 2 Camp Day
On Friday 26 May, our Grade 2 students had an in-house ‘camp day’. The purpose of this day was to continue our learning in a different environment, encouraging teamwork and creative thinking.
Activities included making smores followed by procedure writing, reading around the ‘campfire’, star gazing for sight words on the roof, conducting a camping survey and graphing their results as well as using their knowledge of Australian money to develop a camping budget, followed by a science experiment using glow sticks.
Grade 2 English: Speaking and Listening
During English lessons in Week 3, students have been learning about how to listen to and give clear instructions. This unit serves to further students’ understanding of how language is used for interacting with others and how this varies when people take on different roles in social and classroom interactions. One activity we worked on was taking turns to give instructions to complete a colouring page. Students were challenged to get their pages to look exactly the same without looking at each other’s work. Emphasis was placed on including directional language such as ‘first from the left’ and including specific detail to aid understanding. Students had fun practicing their speaking and listening skills.
