The power of gratitude

This term in Heart Learning we have been focusing on values and qualities which help develop our wellbeing. Last week’s focus was Gratitude. In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude assists people to feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build stronger relationships.

Our Year 6 Leaders ran an activity with their House groups to build an understanding on what gratitude is and what it looks like. Each student chose one thing they are grateful for and wrote it on a leaf to create a Gratitude Tree. This could be a special person, like a family member or friend, a pet, or even a place and possession. The more we are thankful for, the better our Gratitude Tree looks.

Finally, each student decorated a Grateful Leaf to give to a special person in their life. Sanvika (Reception Red) decorated a note for her Dad as she is grateful that he plays cricket with her. Zainab (Year 5/6) wrote a note for Mrs Del Medico as she was grateful that she was her teacher. It was a meaningful opportunity for all our students to take a moment to acknowledge and be thankful to someone in their life.
