The Coffee Project
On Wednesday the 29th of March our Year 12 VCE VM Personal Development Skills class participated in a Barista (coffee making) course.
The course ran for six hours, and covered all the skills we would need to prepare and serve espresso in restaurants, bars and cafes using a commercial coffee machine.
The course also covered the history and origins of coffee, grinding the beans, start-up and break down of our coffee machine, texturing milk, hot chocolate, six different coffee styles, tasting and understanding the ranges and strengths of coffee.
We also got to create and taste our own perfect blend of coffees and hot chocolates on the day.
We are planning to run a small café out of the Trade Training Centre this term to put our underutilised coffee machine to good use and practise our barista skills as part of a small group project.
We have already come up with the name ‘The Hot Splash Café’ and created a logo. We are really excited to start showing off our new skills and get our café up and running.
We would also like to thank Hello Coffee (coffee shop in Apollo Bay) for donating our first 2 bags of coffee beans.
