Buildings and Grounds
What’s Going on with Buildings and Grounds at Gardenvale.
There are always many upgrades and maintenance programs happening at Gardenvale. The most exciting news is that the toilet upgrade on both campuses is now complete, and they certainly look terrific and are not too smelly either. This has taken quite some time and there have been significant adjustments for all as the process has been undertaken. However now they are done, it has been well worth the wait.
We have had painting works on the Junior Campus with the Year 1 and 2 portables freshly painted this year and over the school holidays parts of the external Junior Campus building were done. In 3 weeks, Ash and his team will be blocking off parts of the front pathway so that the front of the building can be done to complete these works. We are in the process of getting quotes for the repair and painting of the Senior Campus windows so both Campuses will look terrific.
The stairs on the Senior Campus are well underway and we thank the Senior Campus teachers and students for their patience and understanding as this has been noisy and disruptive. The stairs should be completed by the end of June.
Several trees have been removed from the Senior courtyard as they were becoming an OHS issue and also blocking the light in the upper classrooms. It was prudent to have these taken down prior to them losing all their leaves which has always been quite a problem for a few months each year in the courtyard. These trees are to be replaced with Crepe Myrtles which will look lovely.
The biggest project that we have undertaken over the past year is the new Art Room and what a wonderful result. From the outside it looks fabulous but if you have not had a peek at the inside, we strongly recommend it as Michele Jones has turned it into the most inviting and beautiful workspace with the help of the student art displays.
The focus over the coming months is to finalise the landscaping around the Art Room, with landscape concept drawings and planting plans going out for pricing, and we anticipate these works being underway soon.
Our school Working Bees always take care of the ongoing general gardening, cleaning and clearing that is required to keep the Campuses looking ship shape and we thank our wonderful school community for their engagement here.
We still have plumbing to fix and some roof repairs which are all part of the general maintenance when you have a school that is 100 years old. However, our future project of installing a COLA (Covered Outside Learning Area) on the Junior Campus will be our next goal.
The Buildings and Ground Team works hard to keep the school looking great, always seeking to upgrade and endorse future projects for continual improvement of this amazing work place.
Onward and Upward.
