Principal's Update

It has most certainly been a very busy fortnight here at DPS! We trust that all of our Dads and friends had a wonderful Father's Day and enjoyed the special gifts purchased by our students at the P&C FUDGE Stall.
P&C Events
Our P&C Events Team and the Canteen have been exceptionally busy organising and hosting the Jelly Cup day and collecting & preparing order forms for the upcoming Pie & Sweets Fundraiser. Over 400 jelly cups were made and all but a handful were sold!
All orders from the Pie & Sweets Drive will arrive next Tuesday 22nd September 2020. Orders can be collected from the Canteen between 2:45pm and 3:15pm on Tuesday. Parents who are unable to collect their order in person can provide written permission for their child to collect the goods from the Canteen at 3pm next Tuesday on their behalf. Special thanks to Kerrie E, Jemma C and Mira L, along with all of the wonderful volunteers, who have made these events and fundraisers possible for our students and school.
Opening of 'The Deck'
It has been a privilege to oversee the installation of 'The Deck' over the past term. This outdoor learning space is designed for use by multiple classes and is a resource for teachers and students to take learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. I would like to acknowledge and thank Adrian Pessotto from Classic Landscape for his outstanding workmanship and for bringing the vision we had for this space to life. I trust that 'The Deck' will be enjoyed by our school community for many years to come.
Congratulations to Almira R (6 Aqua) for being the successful entrant in the naming competition of the Outdoor Learning Space. All Year 6 students will receive a special medallion as a keepsake in memory of the opening of this area.
Whilst we continue to care for the turf in its early stages, we will have the grassed area fenced off and not available for use. The wooden amphitheatre space is currently only to be used under the direct supervision of teachers and parents or carers. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Today was a special day for Year 6 2020. Today was the day when our new outdoor learning area was opened! Our captains Clair and Evan had cut the ribbon to this special area which was named ‘The Deck’. We had a competition to name the area and I was lucky enough to win! Year 6 was able to have the first steps on the deck, shared with our wonderful Year 6 teachers Mrs Keegan and Mr Dean. We also shared this beautiful moment with our Principal Miss Frame and our Assistant Principal Mr Yee. Thank you!
Almira R (6 Aqua)
Today Year 6 were introduced to ‘The Deck’, named by Almira! Mr Yee gave a speech and Miss Frame told us how lucky we are to be the first to use it. Once Year 6 walked up to the Deck, the teachers took some pictures, then we lined up to receive our piece of cake!
This deck made this year great!
Ardinah M (6 Steel)
When I walked onto the deck I felt so proud that we opened a new part of the school. ‘The Deck’ has a lovely path leading to a big stage. This area will be used as an outdoor learning area. When I cut the ribbon as the School Captain, I felt excited, happy and sad, because I knew this would be an amazing addition to the school. The Deck was named by Almira who was rewarded with a $60 book voucher. I will always remember this fantastic moment!
Evan H (6 Aqua)
Today we were all introduced to ‘The Deck’! First we all gathered around the green grass and the new bark and we were told how special we were to be given the privilege of naming it, as a new building structure hadn’t been placed in the school for 20 years! We also got told that bees love lavender which are placed all around the top edge of it! I almost squished a baby plant around the path but luckily I didn’t! I’m so grateful that Year 6 got the privilege of naming the deck and eating cake! I hope the Deck will be used for many years to come!
Gracie F (6 Steel)
Today Year 6 were all gathered up at the new outdoor learning area. My friend Almira had named it ‘The Deck’! I was very happy for her! Because of this celebration we got to eat cake! They said it was because we have had a rough year. Thank you to Miss Frame and the teachers for this special day!

100 Days of Kindergarten
Congratulations to our 45 friends in Kindergarten for making it through 100 days of Kindergarten... especially in the year of 2020! We are so proud of our Kindergarten students for the way they have grown and developed in all areas of their life over the past 3 terms. It is a pleasure to spend time in the Kindergarten classrooms and to watch them play in the playground each day as they display our school values of being Safe, Respectful and Successful Learners.
Our thanks goes to Mrs Taylor and Miss Kesby for their outstanding dedication, care and expertise in teaching K Coral and K Navy, capably led by Mrs Zalaf. I would also like to acknowledge our specialist and support staff for the important role they play in teaching Kindergarten. Thank you to Mrs Luu, Ms Holst, Mrs Clarke, Mrs Sheaves and Mrs Upton along with Mrs Besgrove, Mrs Henderson and Mrs Ozer our Learning Support Officers.

If you are yet to enrol your child or you have a neighbour or friend who has a child attending school at Dundas next year, please don't delay! Enrolments can be completed online via the school website.
Happy Holidays!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents, carers and community members for your continued support throughout Term 3. It has continued to be a complex time for all in the world but your kindness, understanding and wonderful support has been so greatly appreciated.
