From the Boarding Captains

This term has been an unforgettable one. This weekend we celebrated an alternate plan for our annual Boarding’s Got Talent. Mr Goggins, along with help from the Year Twelve boarders, came up with an alternative plan. Each boarding house was themed a different country and we coordinated to prepare a main meal, dessert and an activity to represent our chosen country. Overall, this was a great night filled with many laughs, good company and delicious food. Thank you to each house for the amazing contribution.

With only a few weeks left of school, I’m sure all Year Twelve students are reflecting on all the memorable moments over their past years in boarding. Although this year isn’t quite what everyone expected, I believe we are all truly grateful for how lucky we are, being able to attend school and boarding given the circumstances. I have enjoyed the past six years in boarding and wouldn’t have it any other way. Boarding has not only taught me many life lessons but has given me the opportunity to create close relationships with my fellow boarders that I will treasure for the rest of my life. Although living away from home can be tough, we are lucky to have the amazing support and guidance of the boarding staff. Although most of us Year Twelve boarders are keen to move onto a new chapter in our life, I’m sure that we will all miss boarding and our friends a great deal. I wish the senior and junior boarders coming through in the next few years good luck and encourage you to enjoy your time while in boarding and make the most of the opportunities before you.

What a year it has been, and finally we are approaching the end of it. Year Twelve students are approaching their final days at Great Southern Grammar, and I would like to say well done and good luck. To those who are doing ATAR, continue with the hard and effective work ethic, and don’t drop off in the final stretch. To the Year Eleven cohort, the end may seem far away, but it is closer than it seems. I feel as though I was in your position not that long ago, so keep working hard and prepare for next year. To everyone else, just enjoy school whilst you are there, as it isn’t the worst idea in the world.

Just recently, on Sunday night, all boarders participated in a new and improved version of Boarding’s Got Talent. This involved the houses decorating their space to a chosen nationality, and then preparing food within their theme as well as creating a challenge for the other houses to endure. This was a nice finish for the Year Twelve group in boarding as well as a great way to mix each house and to build bonds between the year groups. This new setup of BGT was only planned to be run every second year and would be in rotation with the normal BGT. Overall, I believe that this event was very successful and will be a great event for further years.
