Bright future ahead for the Royal Australian Navy's newest recruit

Congratulations Tyler Cashin

Australian National Flag Day celebrates the first time the flag was flown, over the dome of the Exhibition Building in Melbourne on 3 September 1901. On this day Australia’s first Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Sir Edmund Barton, announced the winners of a competition to design a national flag for Australia.

Thursday 3 September also marks Merchant Navy Day. It is an opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of thousands of Australia’s merchant mariners during wartime.

KHS Year 12 student Tyler Cashin (pictured) has been accepted into the Royal Australian Navy as a Boatswain's Mate. The Boatswain Mate Workgroup provides the Navy with the specialist sailors who have the knowledge and training to undertake more advanced seamanship evolutions  including anchor work, berthing, towing, replenishment (re-fueling at sea) and small boat handling. Tyler will commence training in Victoria during December/January.

Congratulations Tyler, you have worked extremely hard towards achieving your goal and KHS are very proud of you. The next stage of your life will be an exciting adventure.
