Selamat siang!

What another exciting week of learning we have had in the Leadership Centre culminating with the arrival of Spring and welcomed sunny weather!

As you might have seen in last week’s Assembly video, the 5/6’s spent time creating engaging trailers about their Book Club novels. The selected music, sound effects, words and images that were used helped to convey some powerful messages and evoke a range of emotions. The standard of work was very high and we recommend that you view your child’s video on Seesaw. Book Club was another huge success which saw students leading their group in engaging discussions, asking each other questions, sharing their work and providing feedback to each other. The next two weeks will see students exploring and displaying narrative writing skills when writing a children’s picture book.

This week also saw students screen recording themselves working through a PROBE reading assessment and then answering questions about the text. This was uploaded to Seesaw and will allow for teachers to gauge the strengths of each student and also pinpoint future areas of focus in their reading.

In Maths, students have continued to work on the concept of division, focusing on equations involving dividing with remainders, converting remainders into decimal form as well as dividing with decimals. Students have been placed into appropriate maths groups where they are working to their point of need. The Maths Zooms are continuing to be held throughout the week with the meeting details communicated on the students’ daily slides as well as on Google Classroom. We strongly encourage that everyone attends their particular group’s Zoom meeting as this provides opportunities for them to work through problems together, share strategies and ask questions. Students also had an opportunity to voice why they are grateful for maths using Padlet.

For Cybersafety, students worked with their family members to create a Family Tech Agreement to ensure that everyone understands the expectations and are safe when using online platforms and programs. Has your family managed to discuss all of the expectations so that everyone understands them? Where is your Family Tech Agreement displayed? It would be beneficial to discuss your Family Tech Agreement with your children on a regular basis.

Wellbeing tasks saw students think about gratitude and particularly focus on someone very special in their life.  Students even had the option to share their thoughts and feelings with their special person. What are you grateful for today? Another task saw students create a bank of positive quotes using Padlet. Reading and sharing the range of positive and uplifting quotes brightened everyone’s day. It always makes us feel better when we focus on the positives even though the external forces may not be ideal. The 5/6’s also posted wonderful and uplifting messages for all of the teachers in the Leadership Centre. It brought a huge smile (and a tear or two) to the teachers’ eyes!

Students uploaded their R.I.C.E. projects to Seesaw last week. Presentations ranged from cooking and sewing to planting and overseeing a garden and learning songs on the keyboard. The feedback from students has been positive and we will look to have a second round of R.I.C.E. in Term 4.

In Guided Inquiry students are working and collaborating in small groups to create and prepare a business plan. This term’s unit focuses on economics and culminates with students completing a business plan on their chosen product/service. They will not actually make the product, with the emphasis being on the theory side of what makes a profitable business. Students have discussed their competitors and thought about what will make their business stand out from the rest. They have also prepared surveys to give out which will give them feedback on how they can improve their business plan and model.

Students in 5/6 are also participating in Step-tember which will see them keep track of how many they take each day. Can anyone reach 10,000 each day. The main aim is to keep active and have fun at the same time. If your child does not have a counter or app to keep track then they can estimate based on the conversion table that Mrs. Brisbane posted on Google Classroom.

We wish all fathers and special family members a very happy Fathers' Day on Sunday. I’m sure you will all be spoilt and appreciated.

We hope you will all have a safe and happy weekend.
