Remote Learning Updates
Music
Foundation & Grade 1/2
Students have continued their musical appreciation, listening to Carnival of the Animals - Kangaroo and The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Wood. They are encouraged to think about various elements of the music and to respond through drawing and movement.
They have enjoyed a variety of movement and action songs including Boom Chicka Boom and created their own verse. They have also learnt some dance moves to the song ‘Can’t stop the Feeling’.
Grade 3/4 & 5/6
Students have been introduced to this year’s MCUI, Music Count Us In, song and it’s composers.
‘You Won’t Bring Us Down’ was composed by four young songwriters who were finalists in a national songwriting competition. Each year Sacred Heart joins in with schools across Australia singing the new song which is composed especially for the annual event. Students also watched the Auslan version which we hope to learn before the big event in November.
This week they are learning some new dance moves to the song ‘Can’t stop the Feeling’, playing Guess the Movie and learning some Beat Boxing techniques.
Italian
Students have continued on their cultural adventure inspired by the picture story book ‘Mr. Chicken arriva a Roma’. All classes have been learning some gelato flavours and talking about their favourites. They are learning how to ask for an ice cream in Italian while singing the song ‘Vorrei un gelato’. Foundations to grade 4 are having fun practising this by setting up their own Gelateria.
Grades 3-6 are comparing Euros to Australian dollars. They are also playing a Tour of Italy game to help them become familiar with the Italian names of various cities and methods of transport.
Art
Students have been busy creating Vincent Van Gogh inspired Father's Day Spring artwork.
Foundation
Another busy fortnight for Foundation and their home learning.
Check out Shaylee's Italian Gelato Shop, Fletcher's Town from our Geography learning and Lincoln practising his handwriting.
Well done to everyone who has been sending in their work. There are only two weeks to go and we are looking forward to seeing more fantastic photos and videos of your work.
1/2 Unit
Thank you and well done to all 1/2 students and families who have continued to login to their Google Meets and work through their activities in the Google Classroom. It has been great to see everyone in the morning, and then see your high quality of work that has been submitted to your Google Drive folders. The 1/2 teachers have really enjoyed seeing your work and commenting back on them.
Lately in our Literacy we have been focusing on our reading comprehension and inferring skills. We have looked at a variety of animal texts that require that extra level of thinking to work out what is happening. In our writing, we have looked at Procedural text. Last week students wrote Procedurals on how to play a certain game.
In Maths we have continued to work through our booklets focusing on our Addition and Subtraction skills. Last week for our maths project, we designed and planned out our own Jurassic Parks! We needed to use lots of our addition, number and mapping skills to make sure all the things in our parks were ready.
It was great seeing everyone in their funny/cool/interesting hats for our Friday check-in!
Remember to keep trying some trick shots to show your teachers if you have time!
3/4 Unit
In 3/4 we have been learning about different environments. The students had to research their chosen environment, create a presentation and make a model of their environment! They researched the climate, the animals that live there, the vegetation that grows, where in the world you will find that environment and what is the human impact on that environment. Some students chose to draw or make a collage, others used lego to build their environment and some had fun making a diorama! We even had a stop motion showing the changes from season to season in a Deciduous Forest!

Senior Learning
This week in Grade Five and Six we have been learning about The Middle East and animals that live there. We all did a Who Am I? quiz about animals there.
We also wrote a report about a country in The Middle East.
In Maths we were learning about 24h and 12h time. We learnt that we use 24h time so we don’t get confused about a.m. and p.m.
In Religion we were learning about Shema and we’re discovering our Christian Heritage.

Questions we’d ask a 100 Year Older.
Friday August 21 was World Senior Citizens Day. We are fortunate to live in a time when so many of our elderly are living lives of unexpected health and financial security, but such was not always the case. Throughout history old age was not something an individual expected to reach, and so we lost the wisdom and experience of these individuals at an early age. Senior Citizen Day celebrates the fact that these keepers of wisdom are staying with us longer each year, and in better health.
Here are some of our questions:
Do you still enjoy life?
Do you want to go back to school?
Were you naughty when you were a kid?
Are you afraid of dying?
Do you ever worry about small things?
What are the good things about being old?
What are the bad things about being old?
What was the most joyful moment in your life when you were young?
What do you do to keep yourself fit and healthy?
What football team did you barrack for when you were growing up?
Did you watch the first man on the moon live on television?
How did you meet your partner, wife or husband?
What are your favourite childhood foods?
Do you enjoy life?
What are the best things about being old?
We look forward to their responses.
We have been exploring Visual Poetry
Why do we write poetry? Poetry is an art. It is a written form of self-expression; a way in which people can relate to the world around them. It develops creative thinking and the ability to record your deepest thoughts.
Though it does not have historical roots, Visual Poetry (also known as Concrete Poetry) has enjoyed growing attention over the past 40 years. With the development of Pop Art, graphics and visual technology, this type of poetry has grown in popularity and creativity.
Visual Poetry is illustrating the language. It is a combination of poetic language arranged into the shape of the topic.
Here are some of our examples.
BOW TIE FRIDAY
Don’t we look smart as we work and play!
Reading Reviews
We have begun sharing our reading using a reading review. This is Monique’s review for the fortnight.
