Enter the Wellbeing Zone

Welcome to the Wellbeing Zone, now a regular in our new look newsletter. When you enter the zone, you will find a wealth of information about all the things happening in the Wellbeing space at Sunshine Heights PS as well as strategies, articles, book recommendations and events that will help build our dream and culture of Wellbeing throughout our school community, inside and outside of school, so that we can sail together through a universe of possibilities with all the emotional and social skills we need to thrive.

Welcome Back. Your pace, your way.

Dear families,

It goes without saying that we are thrilled to have our students back onsite in our beautiful community and we welcome the end of lockdown just as much as I am sure you all are too! While for the past two weeks, we have longed for that announcement of lockdown 0.4's end, the end of lockdown can bring with it a whole heap of new challenges and anxieties alongside the happiness.

So, be kind to yourselves as you re-emerge. Go at your own pace, your way.

We will be doing everything we can to make sure our students re-enter school feeling safe, supported and connected, and will do everything within our power to make sure all our parents, carers and families are too, even if it is from afar.

To help support yet another transition, I found this great article with some handy tips on managing the transition and everything that will come with it.

Shout out if anyone needs any extra support!

11 tips to cope with the anxiety about coming out of lockdown!

The Sunshine Heights PS Wellbeing Warriors

This week, in remote learning, I have just been utterly blown away by how much time, commitment and passionate enthusiasm the students of Sunshine Heights have poured into maintaining a positive Wellbeing in such trying times. The engagement in the whole school Wellbeing Bingo Challenge on Seesaw was both inspiring and a beautiful reflection of our student community.

With all the bingo and score cards submitted, I announce to you the Wellbeing Warriors for each year level. These are the students who earned the most points from completing (and sharing) the most number of Wellbeing challenges that they completed across the week.

Prep - Arlo Conlon

Grades 1 & 2 - Bea Meltzer

Grades 3 & 4 - Grace Stanley

Grades 5 & 6 - Stella Weston Barbuto

These students will be invited to share their Wellbeing journey and strategies at our next assembly and will be presented with a 'Sunshine Heights PS Wellbeing Warrior' badge. All students who participated and completed Wellbeing bingo challenges will also receive a certificate for taking care of their hearts, bodies and minds throughout lockdown! My own wellbeing warrior heart is so proud of you all.

Headspace Mental Health Masterclasses for Grade 6 students

As part of our ongoing commitment to building strong partnerships with local organisations working in the wellbeing space and offering mental health services and support to young people, we have been busy building connections with Headspace Sunshine to help best support our Grade 6 students in the hugely important transitionary year they are right now.

For students aged 12 and above, Headspace Sunshine are offering seven free masterclasses, via Zoom on Mondays from 5-6pm across June and July, which will cover some amazing topics around mental health and wellbeing and help build the skills of our young people.

To make a booking or inquiry call 9927 6222 or email headspaceSunshineCommunity@orygen.org.au

Young Carers Support Group

We know that many of our families act as carers for others, including our students who are young carers. To help support our families and young carers, Jasmine and I have been developing an exciting collaboration with Carers Victoria to offer an empowering education and support group for any of our students who may be a young carer.

We would love any interested families to discuss this with their children and email me at Francine.Sculli@education.vic.gov.au to express your child's interest in participating in the group.

FRESH FRUIT BREAKS START NEXT WEEK

Last Thursday, we excitedly received our first Breakfast Club delivery from the amazing humans over at Foodbank. Now that we are back onsite, our fresh fruit deliveries to classrooms will start next week for all students to enjoy (with our full Breakfast Club starting at the beginning of Term 3!). Feeding brains and bodies, what could be better?
