Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

I am sure there were a few tired heads on Sunday night after an extremely eventful few days at the College. On Friday we celebrated Mass for the Feast of St Marcellin Champagnat. This is one of the biggest celebrations of the year, as we take the opportunity to reflect on how we walk in the footsteps of St Marcellin, both individually and as a school community. Our celebration of the Eucharist was followed by a delicious shared lunch and the traditional Bin Ball competition.

On Saturday a majority of our football and rugby teams played home games against St Peter’s and Ambrose Treacy in what was a very successful round for the Blue and Gold.

The weekend culminated on Sunday with the College Walkathon. This was the first Walkathon for all our boys and they certainly gave themselves to the experience. As a Primary School, we won the fundraising competition with over $17,000 raised. A big thank you to all staff, parents and family members who volunteered their time on Sunday or joined in the walk.

Primary Athletics Carnival

Primary Athletics Carnival will take place Friday 18 June – McMahon and Hayden Ovals. All Year 5-6 boys are expected to attend Friday in their College Sports Uniform

Parents are welcome to attend.

As with the Primary Swimming Carnival, the events will be participation/novelty based. Team meetings will be held next week for boys to select team captains.

Boys may wish to change into coloured outfits, which they can do before Pastoral Group, they may also bring mascots and wear zinc in their team colour if they wish.

Hats, sunscreen and water bottles are extremely important on a day like this and boys are expected to take some responsibility to ensure they stay sun safe and hydrated.

Each boy is expected to participate in all the novelty events to the best of their ability.

The Mission Department will be running a sausage sizzle in Break 1 and will be organising something sweet for Break 2, further details will be in next week’s newsletter. Funds raised will be donated to Marist Solidarity.
