An updated look for Northcote
The redrawn logo and emblem
You may have noticed a 'new look' logo appearing on Northcote High document and portals. This is part of our broad Communications review that commenced at the start of 2017. As part of the review, working parties considered the ways in which Northcote communicates and represents its identity with families, staff, students and the broader community. Clear, consistent and effective communication is essential in a large and complex organisation such as Northcote High, and we are always looking for ways that we can evolve and improve in this area. A big thank you to all those who offered their feedback and services as part of the review: it was testament to the richness of experience and knowledge that defines our community. Throughout 2018 there will be a number of changes implemented as a result. These will include:
Our new logo represents an evolution - rather than a revolution - in the history of Northcote High School. The use of the signature purple was a priority, but is now softened by the inclusion of the complementary blue, which is a feature of the school's uniform and other identifiers. The gold highlights of the existing crest have also been retained, and the block lettering is a tweak in style from another existing version of our logo. The crest references the school's proud tradition of continuous secondary education on this site for over 90 years. It is based on the original crest from the 1926 opening, but updated with cleaner, simpler lines and curves.
The school motto Meliora Sequamur (let us follow the better path) is also retained. The block logo is now the 'main' logo - you will see this the most. Two alternate versions of the logo also exist for particular uses (for example, ceremonial documents such as certificates). These are pictured here - look out for them too! Over the course of the year, we will work through a staged update of materials for the new logo. We are seeking to minimise waste wherever possible, so it may be a little while before everything features the new logos!
