Magis report

This week saw John XXIII College teams win six of the nine interschool debates at Christ Church Grammar School.  Or Novice 2 team have completed the season undefeated, an excellent achievement.  Three other teams also have a chance of making the finals depending on the results in the WADL make-up round on Tuesday 29 June, and all teams have represented the College admirably, developing their debating and public speaking skills significantly.  Teams debating in week 10  will be Year 7 Novice 4, plus our Year 11 and 12 senior teams. A full report will be published after the finals when the season concludes. Congratulations to all debaters, and warmest thanks to coaches and managers, Ms Dawson, Mrs Glass, Mrs Lumley, Tantiana  Kurniawan, Rory Hewson, Charlie Richards, Alex Panther and Ben Linsten for their wonderful assistance to the teams.

An excellent Creative Edge Challenge Breakfast seminar/workshop was run by WA Director Mrs Kathy Boyatzis on Thursday morning. John XXIII has three teams, Years 7, 8 and 9 this year, and the quality of the teams is most impressive. Students will receive challenge details in week one next term and have six weeks to prepare. A collage of photos from Thursday’s workshop is attached with this report.  Special thanks also to students who assisted at Friday’s Magis Mass and parents and students who attended.

Next week sees two major events, The Year 7 Magis Personal Project Display Opening on Tuesday 22 June at 7:30am, and Bell Shakespeare for Years 7 and 8 on Friday from 1pm to 2.15pm. Both will be  in the Roncalli Hall.  Both are key highlights of the Magis Program.  Parents are invited to attend the Personal Project Opening to celebrate your son or daughter’s achievement. The Flyer is attached with this newsletter.

The House STEM Challenge saw the closest competition ever, with St Louis winning by just one point from a three-way tie for equal second by Campion, Koolyangarra and Loreto Houses, a remarkable result. See the attached STEM Results to see who were the top performers, and how your House fared. Numbers were again excellent with over 240 competitors from Years 7 to 12.
