IGSSA Regatta 4

Last Saturday 12 June, John XXIII hosted the fourth and penultimate regatta of the IGSSA Rowing Season.  We were blessed with a still and sunny day that brought perfect conditions for the girls to race.

On top of the usual support from our parents, the whole rowing came together making cakes for the cakes for the cake stall, sold raffle tickets, and cooked the now famous JTC bacon and egg burgers.

A huge thanks to the boys who came down to help hold boats at the start line as well as boat loading, the College staff who came down to support our girls, and to all the rowing parents and families who planned and executed a successful day.  It was a great display of the strong community we have at the John XXIII Rowing Club.

Our girls also performed well on the water, representing the College with pride.  Some notable performances were our Freshman Quads moving into the placings for their races, our senior scullers coming 1st and 3rd in both the A and B Divisions, and our 2nd VIII came 3rd in their 2000m race.  Some fantastic results and a testament to the commitment from the girls this season.

All Schools State Championships

This Saturday 19 June, our boys and girls will be competing in the Rowing WA All Schools State Championships.  For our Club this is regarded as our ‘Head of the River’ where our boys and girls united for a common goal of achieving the highest overall points score.  On top of the great commitment by our rowers this season, the State Championship is test of teamwork, fitness, technical skill, with the champion school bringing these qualities as well as the best logistical management of equipment on the day – it really is quite a feat!

John XXIII Rowing Club are previous champions in 2019, and narrowly came second to Guilford Grammar last year.  Good luck to all our rowers this weekend, be confident in the work that you’ve done and pull together as you always do.  Focus on the process, turn every stone, and you’ll be happy with the result!
