Duke of Ed Camp

Murray Life Adventures Camp

On Thursday the 27th of May, the Duke Of Edinburgh students traveled to the Murray Life Adventure camp in Torrumbarry. When we arrived after our 45 minute bus ride, we hiked into the camp where we were greeted by our lovely camp leaders, Fred and Mariah.

They told us about the camp, we then went and set up our tents and headed off for our first activity - Chaos, this was followed by rock climbing and abseiling.

We headed through the bushland to a large 15 meter wall where we climbed to the very top and rang the bell. Soon enough we abseiled back to the ground. Finally after everyone had finished rock climbing, we split into two different groups where many fun activities awaited us. Each group completed every activity by swapping over.

The first group started off with going on the flying fox where you would climb to the top of a tower and get hooked onto a cable. Then we took a leap of faith, we went over a large lake and went through a fountain that splashes us. We all got 2 opportunities at the flying fox while the other group went on a giant swing.

After our home packed lunches we were onto the next activity where as a team we worked through a team building obstacle course. Also a canoeing activity where all canoers were blindfolded and had to trust their captains to paddle around the lake without hitting any obstacles.

After all of our activities were completed we got the devastating news that our camp was cut short due to COVID. With our heads hung low we made the walk back to the bus and headed home for the night.

Even so, this camp taught everyone how to prepare and organize our time effectively. We also became better as a team and enjoyed our time together. Hopefully we can get back out to complete our practice journey in the near future.
