REFLECTION

"I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment" (Jesus to St. Margaret Mary).

June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  The liturgical colour for this is green.  Green is there to remind us all that we are like sprouting seeds.  We, as faithful members of God's family, will reap the full harvest of heaven - eternal life through the glorious resurrection.

The Feast Day of the Sacred Heart is Friday June 11th, which is 19 days after Pentecost. On this day we can focus on Jesus' physical heart as a representation of his divine love for all of us.  We are able to see the unmitigated love, compassion and long-suffering heart of Christ towards humanity.

In a letter on May 15, 2006, Benedict XVI wrote: “By encouraging devotion to the Heart of Jesus, [we exhort] believers to open themselves to the mystery of God and of his love and to allow themselves to be transformed by it. After 50 years, it is still a fitting task for Christians to continue to deepen their relationship with the Heart of Jesus, in such a way as to revive their faith in the saving love of God and to welcome Him ever better into their lives."

PRAYER

O most holy heart of Jesus,

fountain of every blessing,

I adore you, I love you,

and with lively sorrow for my sins

I offer you this poor heart of mine.

Make me humble, patient,

pure and wholly obedient to your will.

Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you.

Protect me in the midst of danger.

Comfort me in my afflictions.

Give me health of body,

assistance in my temporal needs,

your blessing on all that I do,

and the grace of a holy death.

Amen.
