Classroom News - Year 3

Miss Archibald and Miss Potgieter

Visual Arts

Not only are our Year 3 students amazing performers in Music, they excel in other aspects of the Creative and Performing Arts! The students undertook the challenge of creating mixed media animal face collages over the past few weeks with outstanding results. Beginning with a background collage of coloured and textured paper, the students decorated life-like eyes with oil pastels and used acrylic paint to create the other facial details of their chosen animal. The students should be extremely proud of their artistic efforts!

Athletics Carnival

Well done to all students who participated in the Athletics Carnival last week. It was great to see students giving their personal best in the running races and other competitive events. The Diocesan Carnival will be held in Term 3.

PDH/PE

This term, students have been learning how to be safe in a range of scenarios. They have considered safety in the playground, when swimming or playing near water, and next to roads. They have applied their knowledge of safety when playing games and sport with other students during PE lessons.

Science

Students have been highly engaged in learning about living things in our environment. Over the past couple of weeks, we have undertaken investigations to determine which animal groups live in the leaf litter around our playground. Students had fun gathering leaf litter and sifting through the samples to find living things. Insects and arachnids were the most popular findings in the St Mary's leaf litter! The students analysed and graphed their findings to conclude the experiment.
