LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library...

The last couple of weeks have been a really busy time in the library and all focus has been on the Book Fair. Students have been lining up to visit from early in the morning until after school and they’ve loved choosing new books to read and some fun stationery too. I hope they haven’t nagged you too much! We truly do appreciate your support of the annual Book Fair as our library receives a commission that we use to purchase new books and resources for students to enjoy. It’s a big job but worth it.

The Book Fair

The Book Fair ends this Thursday, 30th July 2021. The cases get packed away and collected on Friday morning so unfortunately there will be no sales after Thursday. Students are able to buy before school, at Snack break and also during their weekly library lesson. Photos of the cases are available on the school’s Facebook page for closer viewing, however, items are selling quickly and will be gone once sold out. Again, thank you for your support!

This Week’s Reads

Apart from looking at the Book Fair, during library lessons, classes have been reading a selection of the CBCA Picture Books and Early Childhood Books of the Year.

K-2 classes are reading the Early Childhood Books of the Year each week and completing an activity about the story. So far we’ve read ‘Anemone is Not the Enemy’ by Anna McGregor, ‘Busy Beaks’ by Sarah Allen and ‘Who’s Your Real Mum?’ by Bernadette Green. We still have three more books to read in the category but ‘Anemone is Not the Enemy’ is the early favourite. We loved learning how these sea creatures sting fish except for the clown fish!

Primary have had to use their origami skills and have created their very own mini book that includes images of all the entrants in the Picture Book category. They've chosen their favourite cover and blurb and are now rating each story out of ten. Their early favourite is ‘Not Cute’ by Philip Bunting.

Premier’s Reading Challenge - One Month to Go!

With only one month to go in the Challenge, participants are getting close to reaching their reading goals and should be starting to log the books they’ve read onto the digital reading log. If you need help with this, please contact me on invlibrary@arm.catholic.edu.au.

New Books

We’ve recently received a number of new books for students to read including some new horse novels, graphic novels and non-fiction books. One of our students, Madyson in 5/6G read ‘Jo’ by Kathleen Gros and wrote her own review. You can find these in the library now!

Upcoming - Book Week

Don’t forget to start thinking about dress up ideas for the Book Week Parade in Week 7. Students have an opportunity to dress up as a book character from a story they’ve enjoyed. Students can come as an individual character or as part of a group. In exciting news, the parade this year will also be open to students from Kinder to Year 10 and teachers will be involved too!

Happy reading,
